flywheel inspection plate
hey,
My cars been off the road for a while now, doing some maintenance, cleaning up the engine/engine bay and I think its just about ready to go, just today I noticed that the flywheel inspection plate thing that goes at the bottom of the tranny is missing. I just found it in my pile-o-junk cleaned it off and painted it, but I cant figure out how it goes on. the engines already in the car so I'm hoping I dont have to take it out just to put the plate on. Although it could be really easy to do and it just somehow slides in, but i couldn't figure anything out
anybody know what all is involved in putting this thing in?
thanks
Ill post up pictures of it if you dont understand what I'm talking about, just let me know if ya want some

well theres 2 bolts that go through the bottom of the shield, and you can see where they'd bolt up on the bottom of the tranny, but the shield is shaped like an L at the top, its bent over, so i cant figure out where that lieele bend thing slides into and bolts up.
edit:
heres the L shape thing on the plate
heres where it should go up into, between the tranny and the oilpan
sorry for all the pictures, it probably takes a while to load, but i figure they'd help explain

No, the pics are great they don't take long to load on my cable internet
anyways, you may want to go have a look at an engine and tranny at the wrecker or a friends car, because -to me- it seems that you are missing the metal piece that the dust cover bolts onto... I could be wrong, so check around, but that's what it looks like to me. Hope this helps you out man, I know how frustrating that kind of crap can be.

isnt cable great
so there should be another piece that this thing bolts on to?? you have no idea what kinda piece I should be looking for, do you?
the only guy around here that i know with a 4th gen civic is gone to barrie, ontario for school. and hes about 3 hours away from me..
yeah, this is increadibly frusterating.
thanks for all the help man, ill look around for some pieces that may be what im looking for, if anyone knows what this piece looks like, either post up a description, or even better, a pic cause I have no idea what I'm even looking for
edit: just found this, the bottom holes line up pretty well, is this what I'm looking for? and if it is, how the hell does it go on

Its' handy that you have all these pics!
I know that the two holes on the piece sticking away from the main body of that bracket should be for the exhaust. If you can line them up, maybe you'll be able to tell how it all goes together. My car's bracket looked quite a bit different though, and it's tough to tell you exactly how to do this without seeing the car in person. That does look like the right piece though. Maybe you can get a diagram from a haynes or chilton's manual? Hope you get this crizzap sorted out, my friend
Sorry I couldn't help you more
As a last resort, just see if you can visit a wrecker and take a look at other cars.

you were right, that piece goes from the exhaust and over to the tranny and line up with the bottom holes of that inspection plate, although I still have to try and figure out how the top part of the plate bolts in.
A few days ago I found that metal bracket and I had no idea where it went, thanks a lot, im finally figuring out where some pieces go

Ok.. I took that damn inspection plate off my car a couple weeks ago so I could do an oil pan gasket change. Ok.. Imagine that you are looking at the flywheel. You'll need to carefully wedge the right side between the slit (between the roundish thing next to your oil pan. Don't know what its called, maybe the axel?) As you are trying to wedge it in there, lift the left side up. It takes LITTLE bit of force, but it will slide right in. The two bolts from your oil pan will hold the top of the inspection plate (Remember to take them off before you attempt to put the plate back on).
That black brace you found is for your manifold downpipe. It bolts on top of the flywheel inspection plate. You may want to use new bolts when you are torquing this one down. One of my bolts snapped because of old age..

yeah, i figured out how that black bracket goes in there, and i think now that u explained it i can figure out how to put that inspection plate in there.
so i have to take the 2 bolts out of the oil pan, never even knew that much
then i force it up beside where the CV Axle goes and it'll slide into there?
alright, I'm gonna go try that, ill post back up here if i get it or if i dont
thanks a lot arren123 and 89_Y_49

alright, im finally back, after crawling under my car numerous times, i finally got the inspection plate up there, and I got the top holes bolted up, although I havn't found the bottom bolts yet
anybody know the size of bolt that goes through the bracket, inspection plate and intop the tranny? also, the size of the bolt that goes from the bracked to the exhaust manifold?? just in case I dont find the bolts I need
once again, thanx for all the help, i was clueless on how to do this

Good job!
I don't know the exact size, but mine used two different bolts for the bottom of the inspection plate. I used a 14 mm and a 12 mm socket. The bolts are approximately 1 1/2" long I think.
The size of the bolts that hook up to the bracket to the exhaust manifold are the same as the the bolts on a similar bracket on the other side of the exhaust pipe (if you know what I mean")
