ej8 hx turbo! keep blowing map sensor??????
ok i have a ej8 97 civic hx thats boosted! its still obd2 and running only 5 pounds on a fmu, its a very nice set up too but now back on subject!
i have a oem map sensor and when i hit about 4-5psi the cel comes on for map sensor! i disconnect the battery then connect it and start it up and no more cel untill i hit boost! i also wired in a motorola 2.5bar small map sensor and started the car up and then the cel pops on right away??????? i took it off then put the oem one back on and no more cel till it hits boost!
do i have to convert it to obd1 or something? i want my mpgs back lol. all info is a big plus! thanks

first of all your mpgs wont come back when your turbo and especially if your running a fmu instead of it being tuned properly. the map code, have you checked it or just reset it without getting the code first. the code may give you a idea of what is going on. you have to remember that ob2 is alot better of diagnoising itself and when it sees positive pressure and the computer knows that it wasnt set up for a turbo BING!! check engine light. I am not positive that is why but the code should reveal alot more information.

It's probably the tune, if it's not tuned to accept that extra psi it will throw a code. It's because it's trying to read it as stock airflow
You need a check valve or its also called a map bypass. The cel is going on because the fmu is throwing all that gas in their when you boost and its ****ing up the map sensor. If you had a tune it wouldn't do this. It only does this because of the fmu

That's what you need.
I used one until I could get my car tuned on Hondata.

please do not put anykind of check valve or anything like that on it, the map sensor can read up to 11.4psi and the only problem is the ecu not liking what it sees but the correct fix would be a tune and obd1 conversion. I hate band aids. it real produce more power anyway cause it is tuned properly.
actually you have an ej7 which is the hx model ej8 is the civic ex. I have a 97 civic hx w/ d16y5 as well. Your more than likely going to have to go with an obd1 conversion so hopefully you don't live in cali or anywhere that does smog checks.
