Default car idles at 1500?

got a new civic, d16y7 97 coupe to be exact. it likes to idle at 1500 and sometimes the car gets a little jerky when lightly tapping the gas pedal switching gears and cruising. if it starts doing that i shut the car off and just start it bavk up while still driving. should i be looking at the IACV or TPS sensor? thanks!

does it idle at 1500 regardless of the temperature of the engine. If you have a multimeter you could just go ahead and test the tps it will take ten minutes

A have the same prob but my MIL light is on with code 41 (primary heated oxygen sensor) i have had it replaced too times now light is still not going off. Got them off EBAY, that mite tell you something lol. Got a crack in the manifold aswell but got a new one on the way. Car starts okay. idles at 1000/1400 but once its heated up and i give it a wee rev it jumps up to 1500 or gos up itself and just stays there, if a rev it too say 3000/4000 it gos down to 800/900 then the revs jump back upto 1500+ revs. can anyone help me with this problem

mine was idling high after I cleaned the throttle.. Come to find out I have unscrewed the idle screw when cleaning and left it at some random setting.

anyway,Always start at iacv. That controls most of the idle when the car is warm... unplug it and set your idle per the specs in the manual.

usually that issue is IACV related. You should check it and see if it needs to be cleaned out.

have you checked the wiring, the crack in the manifold could be throwing that off but more than likely you have a problem with the wiring

cold starts it jumps to 11 maybe then climbs to 1500 in minutes and just chills there. was talking to my buddy today about it and he said if i lightly tap it with a hammer it should fix it possibly because their prone to sticking. ill keep you updated.

Dont hit it with a hammer.... it's not a starter... just clean with carb cleaner. It takes 10 minutes.

Isn't that the cold start control valve? I thought the Idle air control valve was located on the backside of the intake manifold close to the throttle...

Either way, a crack in the manifold could explain a high idle problem. I would wait before coming to conclusions about the control valves in general until you fit / replace the manifold (IACV's are expensive (or I'm just poor)).

on y7's and auto y8's its both. its a large valve that is on the bottom of th TB, its a FITV and a IACV. Although the offical part name is IACV its also a FITV.

UP DATE:

Fixed the MIL it was the wrong Oxygen sensor for the car and got a new manifold and fitted it, Still the same problem still sitting at 1500 when heated, I replaced the Map sensor with 3 different ones still the same problem, got a new problem now as well. had the bonnet open the seen steam coming from the radiator and the fan did not kick in. Dont know if it could be the engine temperature sensor or the water pump, not tryed to see if hot air is coming throw the car yet need to find out. when i was trying to fix it i knocked a hose of and a some coolant come out do you think a will have too bleed the radiator?

Honestly, I am having trouble understanding some of what is written there, but here goes. If your fan isn't kicking on, check the fan switch output. If you are overheating, replace your thermostat. Drain and bleed your coolant lines.
