92+ d-series into my EF...questions...
From what I gathered on here, it sounds like my stock tranny is in need of an input shaft bearing. I've pulled the tranny a few times already for various reasons, and have chosen to not fix this one anymore. I want to get a d16z6 or y8 and have some questions that I can't find a definitive answer to.
A buddy of mine keeps telling me to go for the y8, but why that over just a z6? Obviously the newer the engine, the better chance of less miles. OBDII over OBDI? Really? On to the transmission...
I really don't want to do the full hydraulic conversion due to financial & downtime reasons. I see that a lot of people like the Innovative Mounts and the have the kit for the 88-91 civic with 92+ D-series swap with hydraulic conversion, and wanted to know if that was really all I needed. The hinging bracket turns the hydraulic components basically back to a cable setup, right? Or am I not understanding that correctly. Does anyone have this done that can help, or is there a thread that has covered this so I can fully understand what is needed? Basically a checklist of parts I need to buy and have there the day I do the swap.

sounds like what you've got is pretty accurate there. in order to use the 92+ hydro trannies you will need the cable to hydro conversion bracket which as you've already figured out allows you to use your stock cable on a previously hydraulically operated transmission. as far as which motor to go with i would recommend the z6 over the y8 because the y series motors are a lot more prone to spun rod bearings. plus the z6 and y8 have virtually the same amount of hp/tq.
i would go z6 just for the ease and they are pretty much the same motor number wise. also i would save some money and just pick up another cable tranny and mate that to your z6/y8. it will be cheaper to buy a longblock/cable tranny then a whole z6/y8 swap then the innovative mounts.

The Innovative mount kit for 92+ civic with hydro conversion I found for $329, so alittle over a grand to do the entire swap. A local tranny shop wanted that just to rebuild my stock tranny!
^^^ Let's make this simple... 2 Hookers are always better than 1... ^^^
It is your money, do what you want. I would go for the Hydro... they are better transmissions anyways. Also get a Z6 it will be more swap friendly (less sensors/wires left over) and more economical for you in the long run.

I've got a d16a6. There are supposed to be issues with the axles binding, that's why you are supposed to tell them you are using a '92+ d series motor. Maybe your d15 is different...I don't know...
