hey im trying to decide which engine to get for my 96 ek, a b17a1 or a b18b. With a GSR tranny. I know b18b has about 10 more tq, but the b17a1 about 20 more hp. Any pro's and con's for both of theses engines? Comments would be very appreciated

 

i say go for the b17 cuz it has vtec. i currently have a b18b in my hatch also. it felt great but lags the highend power honda was meant for. so i just turbo'ed it.

 

yeah, does anyone know if the b17a1 pulls pretty good in an EK?

 

the b17 is a bunch of noise and dont go anywhere. Get a true GSR

 

get either one then turbo

 

bigger is better get b20

 

if bigger is better, and still want a 4 cyl, get an h22

naw they have weak rods for turbo

 

well im on a budget.. and i already have the b17 in my garage, but im deciding what would be a better choice to swap.. b17 or b18b

 

go vtec b17 thats what i would do then later get a b20 and slap the head on

 

well....if its already in your garage....throw that piece in the car and call it a day. no point in buying another motor

 

yeah, because i can either.. buy the b17 off my brother or buy a b18b.

no. just run the b17. hear vtec, and it'll make you think its faster but in reality, its not.

jup u driving a ek right u going to need a ecu jumper with the 1.7

 

More or less. Flat topped pistons instead of domed as well.

lol, and 200km, for 500. with a tranny, for te b17, and around the same for the b18b.. so yeah

 

go b17 because vtec in that motor is LOUD

 

That's what I was going to ask. These engines are old and rare and typically have a lot of miles.
