I have a 2000 civic ex and my third and second gear will just randomly pop out of gear while im driving. Third gear will pop out in to neutral and second gear will pop out but stay in gear and just rev. Does anyone know what is wrong with my tranny? Thanks for all the help HT. I think it might be my syncros but its hard to tell with out pulling it out. Just seeing if you guys had any ideas. If it is the syncros would it be cheaper to just replace those or just get a used tranny and put that in, it is on a D16...

 

CSB walked out.

 

CSB for second, but not third.

3-4 slider hub damaged due to poor design, also check drivers side upper motor mount, they like to fail and OOZE all over the place.

 

When the drivers side mount fails the engine will clunk like crazy.

Damaged hub won't cause it to pop out in 3rd. I've seen extremely damaged hubs and no pop outs.

 

so all this could be cause by the motor mount? One of my motor mounts are cracked, i forgot what one. Ill look and let you guys know...

 

Cracked mount alone likely wouldn't cause it, mount would have to be destroyed. My drivers side mount was destroyed (engine clunked all over with on/off throttle, didn't cause a pop out.

 

so cracked mount and csb together are causing the problem? What is csb?

 

Countershaft bearing.

 

do you know about how much it cost to replace a csb

 

Doesn't need to be replaced. Just pressed back into the case and staked.

 

sounds easy, how much does a shop usally charge for that abouts?

 

Probably too much, especially if they drop the trans out.

 

what goes into complex wise in doing this? my y1 tranny pops out of 3rd and second. second on slow lefts and 3rd on slow rights. the shifter never goes to neutral.

 

That's a different issue. Impossible for the CSB to walk out unless some genius forgot to put the CSB plate back in.

So i took it to this shop and the guy said the syncros are bad. Would it be cheaper to just rebulid 2nd and 3rd or just buy a used tranny and put that in...

 

Take it to another shop that knows what they're talking about.

 

I have taken my car to this shop a bunch of time and a lot of pep on ht can rep them in the socal area... So you dont think i need a new tranny? What do you think is wrong?

 

It might be cheaper for you to get another trans, but synchro's are not causing your problems.
