Default unsatisfied with bodykits

I think I have just started thinking about bodykits for my crx, though this is likely going to be something I do in the distant future due to another project I'm working on, but, is anyone else just not satisfied with the available body kits? To me, most of the ones I've seen either don't add to the car or they make it look silly.

I know this isn't a kit (it's an artist's concept), but this is the closest thing I could find to what I would consider a decent revival job:

Are there any body kits that actually help to bring the looks of the vehicle out of the late 80's early 90's instead of making you look like a stupid ricer? Or, would that involve doing custom body work?

Thats a neat design but somthing like that is 10k+ all kinds of body work is needed for that.

Heres a thought if your decent with fiberglass or wanna learn you could allways find a body kit off another car (similar dimensions id dont pick a suburban kit) and graft/mod it to fit your crx.

well, I am getting to a point where I have to begin thinking about what to do with the body. When I bought the car many years ago it was a basket case and I had to restore the body or dump it. Unfortunately, the shop did an OK job with replacing the rust (cut out the rust, put in new panels, etc.) but screwed up the paint job royally and refused to fix it/make it right. Needless to say, she is starting to peel and I can touch it up but eventually she's gonna need some love.

I thought that this *might* be an opportunity to do something nice for the old girl and update the styling a bit. Mugen is OK, but boo on the $3,000+ price tag for a simple body kit. I'd want more than a wing, bumper, and side skirts for that, haha.

Kaminari has two kits, one is kinda odd and bubbly- but this one is kinda nice- it's pretty subtle too:

also, the xenon kit is pretty subtle also:

My car is a "she" (aren't they all?). She's got no real name unless I scrape my knuckles when I'm working on her, then her name is "bitch". haha

I dunno...something about those kits just don't "do it" for me. Seems like something is missing. I can't place my finger on it though. I'll have to check out the fiberglass forum.

Maybe I am looking for a kit that fundamentally transforms the exterior of the vehicle...like that black widow kit, but not so uhmmm...flashy? No wait, not so gaudy.

When I look at a wide body kit like that it almost looks like they dropped another shell on the car and left various parts of the underlying shell exposed. It's...bad...very bad. But, if it blended in better with the car, and the lines complemented the vehicle instead of clashing with it, it would probably look pretty good...

...so would you buy a kit like the ground designs "black widow" and attempt to modify it, or just do custom work from the ground up? I realize I'm probably going to spend several thousand to get something I like. I just like the car though, and it seems to be getting harder to find them around here so I want to hang on to mine. Obviously I like the type of styling in the first pic I posted.

Not sure if I should keep it original, or change the body? Obviously, the more custom, the more work...just bouncing ideas around.

Thank you all for your input.

+1, but then I am biased because I have a Xenon kit for my 02 Accord sedan.

I would personally avoid fibreglass altogether and check out what options you have with a polyu kit. It would be able to withstand much more DD abuse than a fibreglass kit.

All of us have "female" cars, because none of us wants to climb into a dude.

Tada! Why doesn't anyone make something like this? I'm not one for hood scoops, but this one is actually low profile and functional. You can't really tell what the back looks like, but I think the stock rear or a small mugen-type spoiler might finish it off quite nice. It def doesn't look like it's from the early 90s, but it respects the classical lines. Sort of looks like that spyder kit that has been modified. But if saw something like that on the road, I'd start wondering if they brought the CRX back, haha. I did find images of the back though and they didn't do a fabulous job of molding the rear together and the taillights are "ick", but IMO, that's sharp.

Wish there were kits like this. But, maybe like you said, I can piece it together using other kits????
