I am busy configuring a Turbonetics T3/T04E for use on a 1.6l ZC (DOHC D series)
The turbo currently has a Super 57 comp wheel with a 0.63 Stg 5 (T350 wheel).
How would a 0.48 Stg 5 compare to a 0.63 Stg 3 , as i can simply swap out the turbine housing for the 0.48 and retain the stg 5 wheel !
Although the 0.48 would create more back pressure on its own the higher flowing and bigger stg 5 wheel should reduce backpressure, the Stg 3 wheel on its own would have more back pressure but with the bigger 0.63 turbine housing will reduce it again.
Im trying to figure out how close in performance the 2 options will be !

Well, considering the performance capabilties of the 57 trim, it is best to use the stage 3 exhaust wheel matched to that compressor wheel. Having the right combination is actually more important than just using a larger wheel. the 57 trim 's CFM rate is ab 695cfm or so at 2.0PR (about 49lbs/min). It's capability is about 430whp anyway. It does no good to put a large 600whp stage 5 wheel on a compressor wheel that can't keep up. THe only time that is ever used is on tractor applications, where big displacement, large torque, and lower power applications are used. It is best to be at .63A/r stage III
Do not use the .48. It will not make power like you want it to. And it will also choke the engine. This will slow response. The .63 will actually prolly spool quicker from higher VE.

Ok thanx for the advice guys !
I ran the Turbo in 57 comp 0.63 stg 5 trim on a good flowing LS/Vtec and made around 470 whp @ 22psi !
But I will look into changing it back over to 0.63 Stg 3 configuration for this application !
