Default Holset HX35 Question

I know this has probably been asked a million times, and i searched but cant find the answer. I plan on building a d16z6 with FJR Spec rods, vitara pistons, mild headwork, bisi 1.2 cams, etc. Im looking at getting a mini-ram and using a holset hx35 with bep housing. With a power goal around 350-400. Now my question is what a/r size should i go with for the housing for a quicker spool, i think the options a/r .55 and .70, maybe someone can chime in on that as well. If i had to guess i would say .55, but will that get me to 350+?

Holset's go by cm2 on their housings not A/R as most.

You will want the 12cm2 housing if you want quicker spool, also when you order your mini ram, make sure that you get a divided flange for the turbo mani if the turbo has one, as most do. Running a divided housing will help spool time with the turbo.

They have a single undivided T3 flange 9 cm^2 exhaust housing that works out closer to a .48 A/R (the HX35 12 cm^2 ~= .63 AR, 16 cm^2 ~= .82AR)

Is this going to be used for drag only? The hx35 on a D series will not provide a very broad powerband, it will be very light switchy.

Check out this thread to see what kind of spool time you would be looking at on the holset on a D, it might be pretty laggy depending. https://honda-tech.com/forums/forced-induction-16/holset-users-unite-1225182/

ya im beginning to accept the fact that the hx35 is too big for a d16. What turbo would you run, because the d16 doesnt have as big of a powerband so i really want something that utilizes most of it. Ive heard good things about a 57 trim being really good for these motors.

I mean you can use the hx35 that is why I had asked what the car was going to be used for because if you do road racing, the hx35 will be no good as it will be pretty laggy.

There is a guy on here Dr. D-Series that is running an hx35, it's a street/strip car, putting down 435ish to the wheels, on 26.5 psi and runs mid 10s in the 1/4 mile. His powerband is from like 5k + thats with a zex 53900 cam I think it is. He is also running the eagle/vitara setup.

PM TheShodan he will give you a good turbo for your goals and what kind of spool you are looking for. Just tell him your setup and what you are looking to get and what the car is for, i.e street/strip, road racing autox etc.
