B16 TO GSR swap?
i picked up a GSR(b18c1) the other day and it looks great. I only got the block, head and clutch was left on. Im picking up a Bare intake manifold on wed. Will everything from my b16 bolt up? any parts i will need so i can get them in advance. they are both OBD1. going to be swapping them into my 90 CRX Si. also the only prob with the Gsr is that the alternator pulley snapped off as he was attempting to remove it. is the alternator pulley and belt from the b16 going to work with the gsr?
As far as I know everthing should swap over if you are getting the gsr manifold. You may need to use the b16 clutch depending on the year of the GSR motor and your trans. clutch will have to match the trans. Count the splines to be sure. Is it cable or hydro?
As for the alternator, the b16 one should bolt up without a problem. You may need to swap over the bracket from the b16 as well.
I would reccomend getting the gsr ecu although it will run on the b16.

It's just a matter of pulling out the b16, swapping some of the stuff over such as the mounts and trans, and putting the motor back in. Everything will plug back in the same.
Your best bet is to disconnect the wire harness at the firewall if possible so they engine harness stays attached to the b16, then attach it to the GSR and then put the motor back in as getting to some of the connections on the back of the block is a pain in the *** sometimes.
However the stock GSR intake is really weird in an EF, I would suggest getting an aftermarket one as most do when they swap in a GSR.

yeah im picking up my aebs IM and p28 today =]. good idea about leaving the harness. as far as the trans swap, thats the only thing that scares me. is it as simple as taking it off and remounting it?
Yeah you can even use the same clutch, I would replace the Throwout bearing and the pilot bearing while you have the trans off depending on how old they are just for peace of mind.
Make sure your p28 gets chipped as a stock p28 will not run a GSR very well, if at all.

What is that? I'm really trying to stay OBD0, will it run ok without it?
Bump, and its all good. if your obd0 your going to need to convert to obd1 depending on what model Gsr you have. obd1 is better anyways. to save time go to rywire.com and just by a jumper harness. i picked up some s2 LCAs and a aebs intake manifold today. im planning on doing the swap next sat my buddies comin over with the hoist. ill have a writeup with pics to follow!
Not trying to hijack the thread, but I might do the same swap and I noticed a sensor on the back of my B16A block that's not on (or at least in the same spot) as my B18C (JDM GSR) block. Here's a pic of the sensor on the B16A, it's the one with the 2 wires.
