Default Short ram intake vs. stock

I had a shortram intake on my 93 SI, that i just replaced again with the stock. Is it just me, or does the car feel a lot more responsive with the stockairbox. Only thing i liked about the short ram was the sound

the pro's of a stockairbox is that is draws cooler air versus a short ram intake. the pro's of a shortram would be both the noise and the top end power (when vtec engages).
i'd take the short ram over the stockbox due to better flow. however, u can mod the stockbox design by dropping in a k/n filter and maybe drilling out a huge hole on the lower airbox to draw more/colder air.

I went back to stock airbox and k&n after having a short ram, the low-mid range is so sweet, and I didn't notice a whole lot off the top. one thing I did do was remove all the resonator crap behind the bumper, the 5g's have some 2 track **** with a butterfly valeve, seemed like crap to me

the short intake was the first "engine" mod i did and i noticed at least a 7mph gain on top end in my '92 si. my intake resonator is gone and there's a nice hole in the mudshield so colder air is coming straight off the road up onto the intake filter.

short ram does help the engine breath. y would AEM make an intake that is not helpful.

7 mph?? wtf are you talking about?

a stock SI is top speed limited by the rev limiter...

umm, stock my car wouldn't pull past 135mph. with the intake it pulled all the way to 140 and i was able to hit the rev limiter twice. when i added my exhaust, i started to consistently hit the rev limiter. once i added the header it was pulling straight up to the rev limiter with no trouble, ~142mph according to my friend following in his maxima.

i'll get a cop to clock me and take a picture of the radar readout if it'll satisfy any disbelief...and yes i know one or two that'll do it for me without any tickets/jail time involved.

The whole hot air thing is blown out of proportion. On 4th and 5th gens, the filter resides next to the battery in the very front left corner of the engine bay. The battery shield the heat fairly well plus, when you are driving at speed it should be cooling off.

Man, that is really shitty, SI's can't even redline in fifth?? I didn't know they were that underpowered

agreed. i have a short ram intake ( weapon*r) coz i LOVE the sound it makes.
i've removed the lower box and duct a air passage from the buttom bumper right up to the intake unit. so it's feeding it semi-cool air etc... and i get the wicked noise
