how to tell if block is good
youll want to get the cylinders honed anyway, if you can get an inside micrometer you could measure the bore. not a necessity though. as stated above, definitely check for warpage, and make sure you have a good straightedge. youll also want to look at the mains, if there scratched up. if they were/are youll have to get it machined.

check for any scoring in the block. if they are really deep your lookin at an oil guzzler lol. if u run ur nail wheres its score and u can feel it.. than the block is pretty much junk unless u have the machine shop take care of the imperfection. make sure you can still see the crosshatches.

yea i just pulled that out my ls-t. ran like a champ till it finally gave up the ghost. new build tho
so your saying if there are no crosshatches the block bad. can you just re hone the block if you cant see the crosshatches? i can see where you mean its prolly no good if you cant. bad clearances but cant you re-hone?
