Going to be stupid loud, fumes will probably come into the cabin, and depending on the state of your engine, you may shoot flames that could melt things under your car...
I started my car with an open header thinking I was going to drive it home, gave 1 little tap of the gas pedal and decided I needed to close my CUTOUT! To add, other than a 2-3whp gain for 2-300rpm at VTEC, there was NO POWER TO BE GAINED!!....Even at 8000rpm WOT!

do you think i should maybe take just the muffler off then? or cut the pipe closer to the back of the car?

my exhaust is only welded no bolts so i cant just take the axleback off

Don't run open header. Read my Stupid OKC Streets thread and you'll understand why.

Yes, if you have to run with a portion of the exhaust missing, I would go as far back as you can. At least with the cat and resonator (if you still have one). If you run it without the muffler it will still be loud but somewhat reasonable.

Hey, your car achieved lift off! Lots of us only dream of that . I'm sure the landing wasn't anything to be dreamed about but rather have nightmares of.

it also depends whats done to your engine most stock engines will be fine running open headers but a modified engine can suffer some serious damage from the lack of back pressure my friend found this out the hard way when his 12.5:1 compression LS vtec spun a bearing for this reason
so if you care about your engine i would say keep as much of your exhaust as you can or just take it off fix your bumper and put it back on

I ran open header for a while when i got my new header because it was a lot shorter than the old one i had and it didnt reach the cat back even with my test pipe extended all the way lol. I had pretty much no low end power, but once it hit about 4000 or so all the power it was making came out of nowhere. Not to mention everytime i drove it, people thought an extremely low flying jet was going by haha

Not true.

Yes, it will run like crap, but engines needing back pressure is a myth.

I'm not going to get into it, but do a little research and you'll see.

I'm dreading having to do this to make it to the muffler shop to have a custom exhaust built, the tri-y header's collector is too short. Good thing it's only a block or so.

The collector is normal length. It just doesn't come with a flex pipe.

Nothings wrong with running open header at all, Its just obnoxious and you will get sick of it.

To ShayneRizzle Im curious as to how your friend spun a bearing due to no back pressure. My buddy has an ls/v with about the same compression and we take the exhaust off at the track every time because we get better times all day long.

Really? Holding it in my hands it looks so much shorter than your standard 2 piece 4-2-1 header.

Interesting.....I have to guess his daily exhaust is a 2.36"? Or is he running a 2.5" with a higher HP setup?
When I dynoed the open header it was 99.9% worthless.
