Default Is this normal?

replaced my timing belt due to way too much slack in it. Now since its changed, car runs sooo much better than before, but now lets say if im driving in the 5000rpm range, my motor sounds mean, like before you could hear the exhaust over the engine, now its the engine over the exhaust. Just curious, I don't want to ruin my motor. Its a B18B1 if that helps at all.

Be more specific your post just does not make sense. Is the motor whining or what in the world do you mean?

Did you do the timing belt yourself and follow the tensioning instructions 100%?
Thinking you might have disliked the though of having any slack in the belt and over adjusted tension.

Sorry. To be more specific, it sounds like its hitting vtec, but I don't have vtec. Timing is correct, me and a buddy did it. He builds Honda's so I trust his knowledge.

Either way something still does not sound right; if you say you did it 100% correct then there is no problem right? Also "sounds like it is hitting VTEC" is a new one from a timing belt change. Maybe you should post a video or bring it to someone who knows what they are doing.

I know some kids around me that "build" Hondas too... all they do is rattle off D16 that and B-series this and put on clear tails and body kits. That does not mean they know anything about what they are doing with motors just because they can tell you what it is...

No no no, he does. Built B20Z block, built B18c head, in an EF civic. He built it all him self. Does the harnesses himself, assembles and disassembles everything himself, so I trust his expertiece. But either way, the car runs fine, but just curious as to what the sound might be. "Hitting vtec" was the best way to describe it. Once it hits certain RPM's (5000ish) the motor sounds like its opening up. I'm gonna take it up to him later and see whats up.
