Default turbo b-series running temp.

hi, just wondering what everyones turbo b is running at temperature wise?
i have an aftermarket guage(autometer)
and in the city my car (turbo ls/v) runs around 165
BUT on the highway(65-75mph)
the car gets up to about 185 at night,
and during the day in texas heat lol,
it can range from 195-205ish.
kinda scares me, so im wondering what is a safe temp.
any help is appreciated, thanx.

I have a boosted b18c block and b16 head and my normal running temp is about 190. I have everything heat wrapped and a vented hood as well.

Having a pusher and puller fan wouldnt help much since youre distorting your air flow.

If anything I would leave the pusher fan on and make a fan shroud like the 240's to force air into the rad to keep your temps down.
Cooling plates help out on 92-95's too so I would look into those if I were you.

by cooling plates,
you mean the plate that goes on top of the rad where it bolts to the support?
also, what is basically a safe range of temperature?
what temp should i basically cut it off at?

Yes im talking about that plate. They are useless in EK's but they appear as if theyll work on EG's since thers a huge gap between the rad and the rad support.

i have autozone fans i think.(yeahh..idk)
so on the highway if your car was running at 205
at say..70mph or so,
would you worry about it?
or would you worry about it at like 210 or higher?

my turbo LS/V runs 190 pretty much all the time with the stock rad and fan. When it's 105+ outside, it will heat up. My Hondata S300 will throw a warning light at 220 degrees. (even though the stock gauge won't read any higher than normal)

so if you're up to 220, you're pushing it, even if the cluster doesn't say so. Sounds to me like your temps are just fine though.

ok. i only have the aftermarket guage for that reason.
thanks man, my guage has never read over 205,
but i have always been curious about that.
about the actual limit of where you want your temp not to be.
so i should be ok.
mostly it runs around 180,
but when i run it hard multiple times or get on the highway,
it can get to 200 or 205,
so i was curious.

your temps arent bad. I wouldnt really worry too much about it. You could look into the cooling plate, it might help out your situation.

^

I'm getting the cooling plate just to be a baller. I wasn't aware that they actually functioned. LOL. So I guess I get a bonus.

crazy thing is, I'm building my car, doing all this stuff, and I STILL have the stock radiator and fan. Man oh man.

well they just help direct air to the rad.
i ran a stock rad. in the winter lol
but here in texas it gets pretty toasty in the summer.
so i had to upgrade!
