6.5" fronts, in an EG, how did you do it?
I have some Alpine Type R 6.5" componant speakers I want to put in my doors. Obviously they hit the glass, but has anyone been successful with spacers and these speakers, or ones like them? Input and pictures requested.
Not only are the Alpine type R speakers too deep they are also too big in diameter, [over-sized 6.5"].
They are also 110W continuous power handling, for best possible results, [SQ including bass extension] replace the stock plastic speaker housing with custom MDF speaker housings, they are not hard to make with some basic wood working tools, search and you will find a full description on how to built them, I have explained it more then once and it is too much to type out again. 94

i have polk momo components, (the old ones that came with the metal grills) in my front doors and the are also over sized 6.5's and very deep. I just used a 6.5 inch speakers spacer that you can find at almost any car electronic store. They fit and sound perfect.
Thanks for all the posts. I found some 1/2 in. spacers that worked out pretty well. But not the original speaker grills dont fit but just a little. It looks like im going to have to make my own wooden spacer and take some measurements to make it just right. I also ran some new speaker wire already which turned out good, and picked up some dynamat. After dynamatting my entire truck interior i was hoping I wouldnt have to ever do it again lol. I flush mounted the speaker in the door. I have manual door panels so i had to cut my own. Looking to switch to power doors and then I can just replace the OEM AR tweet with mine. Ill post some pics when its all done. Thanks for the pictures and good info.
[QUOTE=sqsi;40128712]I made MDF ring for mine and Dynamatted them.

Do you happen to have the exact measurements for that ring...I am in the same situation with my 6.5" alpine type-r's and currently I ahve them "rednecked" installed and would like to instead do it properly
Thanks Bryce

Hey I don't known if this will help you but I had the same problem as you a while back with some speakers that were too deep and too big to fit well in the holes(I think they are 6.5")
so I took a country crock butter tub and cut a hole on the side of it for the wires to fit through, cut the top off,put 1/2" slits about every 2 inches around the top, folded where the slits were and then glued it and placed it in(I glued it just to hold it temporarily).
After that I drilled holes in the metal of the door and screwed the speakers on so they also held the butter container firmly on.
It may sound jerry rigged but it works very well at keeping water away from the speakers and it keeps it from touching the glass of the window since you place the butter container in a couple centimeters from the glass and then use washers to bring the speakers out to the right amount.
