Alpine: Type S or Type R?
I'm looking for some solid speakers for my CRX.. I'll be running it off the head unit, I really don't need a full system and I can't really afford it.
The question is, are the Type R's really worth it over the type S models? It's like a 20 or 30 dollar difference per pair..

If your just running HU power you will not be able to tell the diff. they are almost identical.
You do know that both are "over-sized" 6.5" speakers and will not fit the oem speaker housings without modifications, including a spacer because of mounting depth, 2-3/4" and 2-13/32", stock speaker is just under 2" also mounting hole diameter of the stock speaker is about 5" and the Alpines are 5-3/4" and 5-39/64"
They are also both 50- 250W speakers.
IMO you would be better off with the 5-1/4" SPS-13C2... http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/p...tab=F or look for a "standard" 6.5" speaker, Eclipse, Pioneer, Infinity and others have them, and they will be a direct fit to the oem speaker housings.

If you're going to run it from the head unit, i would recomend to look into speakers with high sensitivity to take advantage from the power of the stereo.
just my $.02
