ok i have a 97 delsol with a d16y8...the cluster was working correctly before...i just replaced the transmision and not my cluster tells me everything except for the mph...i need help cus i dont know how fast im going...thanx in advance for ur help

Is the CEL on? Did you forget to plug in the VSS connector?

 

Did you replace it with the same tranny?

But ya, if your CEL is on, it will prolly be code 17(IIRC), which is VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor)

Search VSS and it will tell you exactly how to tell

yea i got the #17 vss but why is it doing that...i took it off and opened it up,checked it,everything looks good...put it back on and still not working

Well, 1f you are throwing code 17 and it's hooked up that means the VSS is not working.

So if you still have your old tranny, just take the sensor out of that one, and replace it into your new tranny.

Take the whole assembly out to make sure the lil gear on the end isn't all effed up.

If you don't have ur old tranny, than you need to buy a new VSS unit.

 

well the one i got didnt have the sensor... so i put my old one on there

 

Than the gear inside the tranny might be pooched.

or clean your contacts, make sure they ae nice and clean, also check to make sure you aligned the little keyway thingy from the shaft onto the sensor. If that wasn't done properly, it could be the reason for you code.

Either way, search for the VSS thread, it was very in-depth in how to R&R the VSS on a honda tranny.
