Default bad idle, and a dead stop shut down??

I changed my timing belt today as it was well needed and somewhere along the line something got messed up.

I lined everything up before putting the belt back on and slapping everything back together. When i went to fired it up, lucky me ended up with a dead battery. Got a boost. Car now has a LOW idle. And is running on 3 cylinders.

Took it for a drive down the road and it runs great until i want to come to a complete stop. Then it just completely shuts down on me.

Checked the dizzy and lines and everything is good. Have spark on all 4.

Im just looking as to possible reasons that it could be doing this. Hoping that somebody can think of something I cant as its driving me crazy.

My car is a stock 97 Cx hatch. d16y7

OP: Check the firing order on the cap and the ignition timing.

thanks for the help. i took your advice and it runs better, only now im getting a rough idle.

after stating the car it idles at 1000 and drops down to 500 and chugs. It drives well, no problems at hwy speed or through town. The only problems are at a stop while idling.

I checked my timing again just to make sure everything was lined up right and all signs point to yes.

Im now getting a CEL code 73 for random misfire in cylinder 3. the cap and rotor are 3 days old, im getting spark, and the spark plug is clean. When i pull the plug wire there is no change in idle. Put when i pull any of the others there is a significant difference.

I topped up all fluids, and filled my tank. Drove around 30km and it used 1/4 tank which is NOT normal.

I plan on a compression test tomorrow. But my question now would be, will the misfire cause that significant of a fuel loss? if not then what else could it be? What should i look for in figuring out whats causing the misfire? As for the fuel problems i do plan on changing the filter.

Does plug #3 have spark? How does plug #3 look? Is fuel injector #3 click and have power?

plug # 3 does get spark..... and its a white/brown color .. they are newer aswell
do you think i should take the # 3 injector out and try to replace with another ..

could this be the fuel filter aswell? what should we try ?

it ran amazing before we changed the timing belt.. now it runs good only at operation speeds...but on idle it drops to 4-700 rpms and almost seems like it wants to die..

Check for battery power at injector 3 and buy an inexpensive engine stethoscope (~$4) to check whether the injector clicks when the engine is running.

Also do the compression test you mentioned.

why did you change the belt? did the last one break.. and in doing so bent the valves?

Mine is doing the same thing... was driving on highway when i noticed it was running differently. Slowed down and it got worse. Definately only running on 3 cylinders. I checked and have spark. Did a compression test and i have almost no psi. I have about 150 in all the other ones(low, I know), but I barely have 5psi in the one cylinder. Must be bad valves or something...
