Default Two B series intermediate shafts???

I recently swapped an LS into my 96 civic hatch and initially i thought there was only one B series intermediate shaft offered. But i've come to find out that there are two different ones apparantly..

One is Male (tranny side) and male (CV shaft/wheel side)
The other is Male (tranny side) and Female (CV shaft/wheel side)

The interesting part and also the part that caught me was that both have the same flange to bolt up to the back of the block BUT they dont bolt up to the same casting numbers...idk why

for instance i had two b18b1's (one i installed in my hatch and one in an integra) so i took the intermediate shaft out of the integra to put in my hatch but the flange would not lay flat to the back of the block for some reason. Then i found the other optional intermediate shaft and it bolted up just fine.

Can anyone give me some insight to why there are two?? or what the difference is?? i thought maybe it had something to do with ABS or not in the integra's or something??
IDK...

it must be the other one cuz the male to male one doesnt bolt up to the b18b1 with a manual tranny...

i was also just told that it is a difference of automatic and manual transmission...

The automatic mid axle doesn't work on the 94 and up. I was sold a "ek9" midshaft . It was a automatic mid shaft. The automatic mid shaft doesn't work.

Auto transmission was bulkier forcing their final drive outputs & drive shafts 10mm(?) rearward so Honda made a specific mid-shaft with different mtg to space it further from the engine block rather than just adding a spacer & longer bolts.
Left & Right driveshafts are also slightly different lengths despite the intention of the mid-shaft, which could lead to Left & Right being mixed up & the shorter shafts pulling out of the transmission so while older cars driveshafts were both 'Male' with matching female mid-shafts, Honda soon changed the Left shafts to be 'Female' & Mid-shaft to Male so they could not be interchanged.
