2005 Honda Civic EX Fuel Gauge Problem
Hello fellow HT member,
First off, I drive a 2005 Honda Civic EX SE. So what i've been noticing is that when my tank is at 1/3, the fuel gauge seems to get all fk up.
What I mean is that, I drive the car for 1-8 miles and it drops like I drove the car 50 miles (Don't have a heavy foot also). The 1/3 drops to almost 1/8 and the light pops up (NEED TO REFILL!). Since I don't really feel like putting another $35 to fill the tank until when I really need to go somewhere, I just go home and say to myself I'll pump it tomorrow.
Next morning, I wake up finding my gas is back to 1/3 and the light is off. I'd asked my mom/dad if they drove the car and pumped the gas, but I know they didn't because my car is in the exact same spot + the seat set to how I drive (They are shorter and move the seat closer, so I would know).
I mean it doesn't bother me as much, but when it keeps on doing it I get irritated by always looking at 1/3 going to 1/8.
So does anyone know the problem? And thanks

ok A - it costs just as much money for you to run your car on the top half of your tank, as it does on the bottom half. So if your so concerned why not just keep gas above half a tank?
The only other thing i can think of, is if its that much of a concern, replace the fuel meter sending unit. If you think its a wiring problem, check where the wires come in from the dash, and check continuity between there and the sending unit.
Last thing i could possibly think of is maybe the needle in the gauge cluster gets stuck for some reason. Thats the only components in the system right?

You are having the same problem I have had for years; its just the way it is. Mine will be on 1/4 when I stop it and next morning I get in and its below E and the light is on.
It has acted this way for 5 years now and I have just grown to live with it. You should just ride it as is and just be weary, the gas light has a mind of its own.

I have the same problem I saw an article in HondaTuneing that said that the fuel gages on hondas are extremely inaccurate. I think the first reading that you get when you first start your car is the correct one. Idk I don't drive my car to empty it can be hard on your fuel pump.
The sending unit in our cars is in the gas tank... So say u park ur car on a hill all the gas is gonna b on one side of the tank and u'll get that reading when u start the car cause it thinks the tank has less than it actually has. Once u start the car and start driving it will realize there's more in the tank and ur needle will move. This is a problem for most 7thgeners. I don't think u have a wiring issue or anything its just the way honda designed it.
