Default Fuel Gauge Issues, maybe??

So a long time ago my 2000 Civic EX *seemed* like the low gas light wasn't working right. I don't run it down to empty but at times I had run it pretty low (or so I thought) and the light wouldn't come on. I took it to the dealership and they said I needed a new fuel sending unit. Well I replaced that recently (about 3 months ago, with OEM) and now the gas light does come on but it goes on and off and on and off when it gets near "E". It never wants to stay on constant.

The problem I've been having a while is that my needle will go down dangerously to "E" and make me freak out that I am about to run out of gas and I will go fill up and I will still have like 3 gallons left in the tank.

My gauge used to read 1/4 of a tank at 284 miles on the tripmeter. Around 312 miles was nearing empty. Now around 240-280 it starts really close to "E" and I start freaking out. I filled up yesterday with the light going on and off and it filled up to 9.95 gallons. And I have a 11.9 tank...

Any suggestions?

Could be a bad float or sending unit...but if you pay attention to your trip meter you'll be fine. My HX light doesn't work at all but at 360 I fill up religiously. Usually takes 10 gallons at E.

My low fuel light does not remain on steady until there is only about 1 gallon left in the tank. It turns on and off when there is more than ~1 gallon.

I have never ever seen my light work correctly, only when IV parked on a steep hill with a few gallons in the tank. The needle goes down property until half, about 175 miles. Then it immediately drops below 1/4. It reads below E at around 300 miles and takes about 9.5-10 gallons. I like to keep a couple gallons in there.

I retrofit a low-fuel indicator to my 93 Civic. When it's close to low, the light will fade on and off. Usually it takes a few more km to actually stay ON constantly. That's when I know it's definitely high time to hit the petrol station.

Sorry I didn't get any notifications about replies to this. The problem where it goes closer to E sooner than it used to started happening before I put the new sending unit in. So idk I just miss it being the way I was used to, now I guess I will have to figure out what the new 1/4 tank reading is, I don't like going below that. I have pushed my car to about 320 probably without running out of gas but I don't know where true E mileage with 1 gallon left is. Thanks for telling me what your experiences have been. I just thought maybe the fuel gauge itself might need replacing since I put a fuel sending unit in with the same results besides the light working or being more sensitive now.

I would rather rely on the trip meter than the fuel gauge. It starts reading E while there's still 1/3 tank. It'l sit as low as it goes, below E when I still have 3 even 4 gallons left, after driving only 250ish miles.

is there a way to make the fuel gauge work properly or should I just to back to thinking Honda did this on purpose so people don't suck **** out that's sitting on the bottom of the tank
