Trouble going into 2nd, 3rd and sometimes 4th
1998 TypeR LSD transmission. 01 OEM Honda TypeR clutch. LS/VTEC 190whp.
Now that you got the run down here is the issue:
This May I changed to 75/25 Honda MTF and Penzoil Synchromesh because I noticed 2nd & 3rd weren't going in to good. Not grinding, just not going into gear when I put it there.
So lately my 2nd & 3rd have been getting worse and happening more often. Still not grinding, just not going in.
So today I changed the tranny fluid to 50/50 Honda MTF & Penzoil Synchromesh. Now my 2nd, 3rd, 4th are worse. They just don't seem like they want to go in. Still not grinding.
This ONLY happens at HIGH RPM'S redline area (8000-8500) nothing below that. When I drive it normal, everything feels great.
I'm thinking my synchro's are starting to go bad. My friend who is a mechanic @ Acura said it could possible be my clutch not disengaging completely. There is only 18,000 miles on the clutch.
What are your opinions, suggestions, solutions?
I am thinking to go back to 100% Honda MTF.

Check the clutch and slave cylinders.
Ditch the Honda MTF altogether.
Like I said before its probably not the synchro's, they don't wear out very often.

I'm starting to think its the not the synchro's either. By the way, did you come to the Mustang Track days yesterday or today?
I bled my clutch fluid friday morning before the first hot laps and it felt a lot better and was great all day. Then towards the afternoon and today it starting to do it again. I'm thinking its either clutch issues or the slave cylinders.

at higher rpm's you could be shifting/rocking the motor/trans mounts causing the shifter linkage to jam up a bit. check shifter rod bushings and motor mounts

From my experience torco mtf does not work good on a tired transmission. Its so slippery it makes it hard for the synchro to do its job. If you have problems running the pennzoil or honda fluid then you probably need to rebuild the trans assuming the clutch and hydraulics are ok.
