Default What do I need to put D16z6 Head On d15z1 bottom end??

I got a 99 civic with a d15z1 motor, and the timing belt snapped, i dont know why because it was brand new, less then 15,000 miles on it. cam gear broke and belt snapped. so i got a d16z6 head. i dont care if vtec will work or not. but im sure i can wire up vtec and run a d16y8 ecu and im running y7 manifold... also what head gasket would i use and what head bolts?? for d15z1 or d16z6???? please let me know. thanks for the help

Z1 pistons + Z6 head = ~7.5:1 compression ratio = will not run well enough to pull itself out of it's own way.

as long as you're aiming for 30-45hp... that is if it even starts. Keep in mind stock honda ratios are in the mid 9:1 range.

swap out the pistons for something with less dome and you'll be light years ahead of what you'd have now.

im just trying to put it in there to get it running and drive it. Im pretty sure a z6 head is a lot better then z1 head

In the term of performance. Yes

Fuel efficient. No

If you snapped a new timing belt and the timing gear broke, i'd say you starved the head for oil and the cam seized in the head, all that kinetic energy has to go somewhere...

As for the head swap, you can't swap any other head onto a Z1 and have it run properly without doing swapping the pistons for something with less of a dish. It is what it is, if swapping pistons is too much work get a whole other engine or find another Z1 head.

Again, since you didn't seem to get it the first, second or third time. If it manages to start it will run like crap, an 8 valve D15B8 boat anchor will have more power.

X2

The OP just doesn't get it through his head lol. He want's to do the head swap and says swapping pistons is too hard.

If you want your car to just run, why not just get another z1 head. Throwing another vtec head isn't going to do any good.

Just swap your Z1 for a Z6 or just throw another z1 head. Plain and simple and you will have your car running in no time.

wow yall are crazy, im not trying to go fast, i have plenty of fast cars, but im trying to go the easiest and cheapest route so i can run the car through a car auction, thats all im trying to do, i dont care if it has 50 horse power, as long as it runs, with no missfiring, and i dont care if vtec works or not, it didnt work with the z1, so im good. thats all. im not trying to do anything else, i dont want to buy something when i already have something that could work...you said it wont even start with the z6 head and one person said it will only have 45 hp, im fine with the 45 hp, as long as it will drive so it can run the car auction lane. thats it!!!

It probably wont. I don't know of anyone who's ever tried it, mostly because its just such a mind numbingly terrible idea in the first place.

Yes, but you don't have something that will work. Go out and buy a stock engine and drop that in, its not exactly hard to find used D15B7s, D15B8s for next to nothing.

honestly why not just swap a zc dohc engine they are only $500-$600 and that way you dont have to change your pistons and so on because with the head you want to swap your car will be running like a bag of **** if it even runs at all if you dont change the pistons but in the end it is your car and you can do what you like just trying to help you out
