Hmm... i use a hybrid tranny so i can't really lend any insight on how different they "feel".

I do know that on paper, they are not much different and $350 is a ridiculous price.

Unless your goal is to make an all out track car, Id just go with the DX tranny.

well the a6 tranny has shorter ratio's but quick response shifting in to gear and the b2 just has longer ratio's slower response into going in gear because i started off with a b2 tranny then a a6 tranny so i know the difference but i recommend go with a a6 tranny

the a6 is a great tranny to have, but its not worth $350. not unless its in like prisitine condition inside and out. also, the gears are not shorter between the lx/dx/si trans. it's only the final drive that changes.

gears arent shorter, its the final drive gear on the diff that makes it different.

WTF? the speed in which a tranny shifts has nothing to do with it being Si or DX. Its the trannys condition that will have an effect on "shifting response".

1st-5th are the same in LX/DX/SI (as stated earlier). The DX (d15b2 tranny) will be better on gas but the SI tranny will be quicker.

So how is the final drive different if all the gear ratios are the same?

Ok, you are thinking about this wrong. If you have a RWD background then the Final Drive in a FWD transmission would be the ring gear / differential gear in the RWD setup.

Basic torque flow:

Input --> Selected Gear (1-5/6/7 application dependent) --> Final Drive / Ring Gear / Differential Gear (application dependent) --> Wheels on the road go round and round...

watch this video, although the guy talking doesn't do a very good job of explaining it - he has 1st gear and 2nd gear confused - what he calls 1st is actually 2nd and what he calls 2nd is actually 1st - what he calls the output shaft is actually called the countershaft by Honda

ahh ok ok got ya.....so my dx at 60 mph or 100km sits at about 3k rpm what would the si tranny with the 4.25 final drive rev at going the same speed?

Thx for the help guys

Also is there any numbers on the si tranny so you can differentiate it from a dx?

used a tranny calculator which said at 60mph the dx trans would be at 2758 rpm, Si trans would be at 3015 rpm. will vary slightly depending on rim/tire size.

yes. although the rpm difference at a given speed isn't much, the si tranny is much quicker. the dx tranny has a higher top speed, but the si trans with the higher fd allows you to get to that slightly lower top speed much quicker. the higher the theoretical top speed, the longer its going to take to accelerate to it. when you factor in road friction and wind drag you realize it's nearly impossible to hit that theoretical top speed anyway.
