Default Newbie needs help! (h22 turbo?)

I'm putting a Jap Spec H22 swap in my 99 EK. Friends have been telling me that even at stock boost levels (drag gen 2 kit), it will toast my motor. Any suggestions for a cure. (besides sleeving, pistons, rods, etc.) I want a good daily driver that kicks butt...

as long as you treat your motor right you shouldnt toast (blow) your motor or a ring or anything. fuel management is a big key in that. use a good standalone or something equivalent you should be fine on stock boost levels. but i would ask around more because i dont know much about H22s, but you can run a Drag 3 on a D16 at stock boost and the right fuel management and be fine.

I have a friend w/ a 99 si dohc w/ only an exhaust and the drag gen 3 kit. W/ the supplied fuel upgrades, pump, regulator, ect. His car pumped out 285whp. His car runs like new today (30k later). No stand alone computer was added.

Will this be the same story for the H22 Turbo?

as long as you dont go above 8 psi and have the fuel upgraded you should be fine......good tuning is what you need

Your ringlands will most likely be the first thing to go. As long as you keep the boost around 8-10 max with proper fuel management and tuning. You should be fine just pray you don't get any boost spikes like i did. Even then i didn't blow my motor up, only the rings, so i just decided to build the bottom end.

Dont put a turbo on it unless you are ready to rebuild the motor if you have to. A lot of turbo h series dont last long, even at moderate boost levels. I wouldn't go over 7 psi and I would keep some money around in case the ringlands go. Good luck
