My 96 ex coupe is physically knocking. My stepdad is an ASE who specialized in imports, both euro and japanese. He was listening to the engine as it accelerated and said that it sounded as if the bearing was out or the piston was lagged. It's not horrible yet, but it is getting there. I am looking to either do a shortblock replacement or swap an identical d16y8 engine. Does anyone have any good advice of a reputable vendor who sells a. shortblocks or b. remanufactured/refurbished engines?

And on that y8, your dad is correct, it is most likely a bearing. Very common on a d16y8.

okay, so i found zc sohc on hmotors, and its $475. will that bolt up directly with the tranny and existing mounts, and can i just transfer over the cylinder head from my d16y8? Is there any difference in bottom end power or is it the same as the d16y8 bottom end?
