need help setting timing 92 VX
I just bought a 92 VX for 200 bucks... it wasn't running but I turned the distributer all the way back, and it started after it runs for a few minutes it wants to shut off and then its hard to start again... I also have a CEL, which I checked out and its the TPS... I don't know exactly how to set timing, but kinda have an idea... I searched the forums but couldn't come up with one that tells me exactly how to do it... could someone help me out here? And if its more then a timing problem, what else could my problem be? Thanks
TPS is your throttle position sensor so you need a new throttle body. They're VX specific.
Ignition timing procedure can be found in the Haynes manual or download the Helms. Most people forget to jumper the ECU and the ECU will fight your adjustment to try to keep it where it was. Reset the ECU afterward.

you need a timing gun - point it at your crank pulley while turning distributor, line up the middle mark of the group of 3 to the mark on lower timing belt cover
as far as the tps goes you can test it by checking the resistance between the two outside pins i think it is. It will be obvious once you hook up a multimeter. It should be a smooth transition from .5 to 4.5 if there are any big jumps or dead spots the sensor is bad. If not concentrate on wiring.
I know I need a new tps... my actual problem is my timing belt jumped, due to a missing tooth on it... I bought a new one along with a new water pump... before I go ripping the one out and putting the new belt back in I don't know how to line everything back up the correct way (such as the timing marks on the cam gear and the pulley) where do they go? I know there's marks on the cover... also which way do I turn the cam and pulley? Is clock wise or counter clock?
