Default tachometer reading bad at high rpms

My buddies tach kinda sketches out past 7k in his ls-v setup and bounces around. I've searched this and didn't really find anything useful that would help fix the problem.

Any ideas?

yeah, my buddy is running a phearable ecu basemap, i believe they use chrome. but not sure. I'm trying to convince my buddy to suck it up and pay 700 for a s300 with it preinstalled in a p72 but he doesn't believe it will make a difference. its so hard convincing newbies to spend money haha.

Any other suggestions?

If the tach is bouncing around, but the actual engine rpms aren't, it might be the ICM (aka ignitor). The ebay ignitor fixed my problem.
