so here is this block i picked up and saw this chip on the cylinder wall and was wanting to know if its ok or not. and yes i kow i spelled cylinder wrong on the title
Honest answer. Your rings wont come that high.
I'd sand it to make sure its flush and wont scar anything.. But your HG will cover that,.. I'd be worried about the scarring effects.. but that wont hurt anything power wise.. it shouldn't at least.
How'd that happen?

dude, if we're questioning it this much, it shouldn't be a problem to say hey, this isn't the way it could have gone.
take it to a machine shop, have them look at it.

id sand it a little bit and run it, i seriously doubt its going to cause any problems as nothing will even touch that except for the headgasket
i can imgaine that over time of usage with the current state that the chipped wall is in, will result in a mojor hot spot. that being that it will potentially separate.

quick question the block is a b18c with type r pistons is 600 to much for the block or it it and ok price
Something to think about . . . that chip may not interfere with the head gasket but it is now a stress raiser and if that block is going to crack it is most likely going to emanate from that chipped area.
If that's what you paid for it used, unbalanced, then no, you got ripped off. If that's what you paid for it freshly rebuilt and properly balanced, then yes, that's a good price. I normally run across gsr blocks for around $200. ITR pistons and rings (RS Machine $190), new ACL bearings and gaskets around $100. Press out old pistons and install new ones, over bore, hone, deck, and balance ($150-200)
i have same isssue u do it causes my car to overheat.. im not sure if u should pay my buddy 400 to take block off and take it to machine if they can do it.. or should i just put a good 3 layer gasket on it and seal the crack with indian glue
