Some browning in cylinders from sitting. Hone/deglazing required?
I bought a stock bore F22 block to rebuild. The person I bought it from stored it without oiling the cylinders. As the title states there are a few brown spots visible in the cylinders. You can't feel any of them if you run your finger across them. There's no pitting. Just slight discoloration. Block is otherwise in great shape. Factory crosshatch is still very visible as seen in the picture attached. Do I absolutely have to deglaze/hone before reassembling it with new rings, etc? I don't particularly want to mess up the crosshatch if I can help it.

I believe any time you install new rings, you need to have it honed. The crosshatch is what makes the rings break into the cylinder walls. That slight little rust / discoloration will be cleaned up with a hone. Looks like nothing to worry about to me.

I tried to clean them up. Scrubbed on them pretty good with some WD40. It got better but still not 100% gone. Judging by how good the crosshatch still looks I think I'm just gonna put it together as it is.

Recommended, sure. Not necessarily required if the crosshatch is still visible and in this case it looked like it had just been honed by a machine shop. I don't know the history on the block so there's a chance it could have been. After assembling the engine and turning the rotating assembly over a few times with a bit of oil on the walls the rings took care of any discoloration. The bores look brand new now. I have no doubt that the rings will seal perfectly. Just wanted to update this thread with the outcome. Thanks everyone for your input.
