1996 civic si sound system wiring. need help
So the car i bought has 6x9 alpines in the trunk slots and front door slots.
It has an alpine deck and no subs and amp in the trunk, but all wires are ran to the back and sit in the trunk.
I tried hooking up subs and and 2 channel amp and only got sound in one tweater...
with no amp there is no sound from anything.
What i need is to rewire everything to work without an amp plugged in.
But if i wanna use subs then an amp is needed to power the subs.
its like this in my integra, why is it so weird in my civic now ??
There are 6 rca cables
2 sets of black neg n ositive wires from front tweaters
telephone wire for the cap displayer.
power cable and 2 negative grounds. i only use one though.

3 sets, ["6 RCAs"] means there was probably a 4ch and a 2ch or mono block amps that were removed.
To rewire you will need to pull the Alpine HU and rewire the HUs speaker outputs to the cars stock wiring, it will be exactly like your Integra, you will also have to rewire the speakers to the stock wiring, if not already done so, you said, "2 sets of black neg n ositive wires from front tweaters"
BTW does that mean stock tweeters?
And although the rear speakers are 6x9s, the front door speakers are not, [unless a lot of custom work was done] they will be 6.5", either way you will need to pull them to make sure they are wired correctly to the stock speaker wire, the rear 6x9s can be done from in the trunk.
Pull all the wiring from the trunk except for the power cable, trigger lead, [amp control lead and one set of RCAs, make sure they are connected to the Alpine HUs sub output, if everything is working you should have sound and set up to install an amp and sub.
If you need more help I will need to know...
Model of Alpine HU?
Makes and models of front and rear speakers?
Make and model of amp you want to install?
Make and model of sub?
That you have pulled HU and properly wired it to the stock radio harness.
That you have pulled the speakers, [fronts] and made sure they are wired properly to the stock wiring. 94

well, i have the head unit out.
the front speakers are alpine TYPE s
rear speakers r ALPine TYPE s
Head unit is Alpine(ill get the model number soon its in the car on the floor)
tweaters, i dunno if their stock or not.
i dont have a sub or amp atm thats why i want to be able to hear music without them threw the cdplayer and listen to cds.
theres so much **** wired inside the dash from wires to harnesses to wires being cut and capped off and theres an alpine crossover box in the driverside door, it looks like everything is ran to the head units harness and then turned into RC's and the rcs ran to the trunk.
i dont know much about wiring sound systems n **** , touching this makes me nervous lol.
would it be easier to jus keep waiiting and buy an amp or sub thats 4 channel or something.
even the sub wire from the HU is wired into rca's, the tweaters r wired into rcas, the HU is in RCAS, then their all ran to the trunk..

Is the stock radio plug still in the car?
Can you take a pix or two of the radio spot?
This may help... http://www.installdr.com/InstallDocs...PDF/466013.pdf 94

thing is he has crossovers which i dont know how to wire. and i really dont wanna pull everything out and rewire it all again lol, id rather jus wait n get an amp then i guess. i just wanted sound until then without having to redo the entire car heh
Trending Topics
did you check the gains on the amp and also the crossover frequencies. is there absolutley no sound? Do all of the speakers have solid connections with the speaker wire.
sound wont work till i hookup a 4 channel amp he said.
i dont have an amp nor subs. its my gfs car for work use and i use it to but we want to have sound without having to hookup an amp and subs cause that means buying one and we dont want to atm.
I have the alpine deck taken out of the dash. it looks like this:
And heres how it looks inside the dash.
There are tweeters in the doors and speakers in the front.
The speakers in the back are alpine type S 6x9's and they are not hooked up to anything. i coiled up the wires and have them tucked away in the trunk.
They arent running to the front or hooked up to factory wires or anything like that.
Driverside door has crossover box.
no sound at all when on or cd is in.
im debating wether to pull everything and start from scratch(i wouldnt even know where to start)
or just leaving it heh.
You don't have to remove anything to get sound, just a little rewiring, no biggie.

If you have the head unit out, look at the back and see if the wires are all connected to the back of it. Then take out a cross over in a door and look at the wires going into that. Then go back to the head unit and see if the that wires connected to the crossover are matching the wires that are connected to the head unit. if they are then you have either pinched off one of the speaker wires and it is not getting connection or you have a problem with your headunit. take the wires out of the conversion box for rcas and match them with the wires behind the head unit that lead to the speakers, or crossover in your case. if the guy before you had a amp then the wires for your speakers are probably near where the amp was.
i have the head unit out all wires were hooked up and it now looks like this
Head unit:
Whats with the subwoofer green rca cables coming from the deck ?.
sub wires from deck ??

back of head unit

front

chart on deck

Tweaters: im not sure how these r wired
Rear speakers: noot hooked up to anything yet u can see the wires jus coiled up and sitting there.
all

Wires sitting in the trunk:
trunk wires

notice there is two negative grounds. I tuck one away though and only will use one.
There is the positive ground 8 guage THICK WIRE.
Two sets of rca's: 1 set is white with 4 ends and one set is blue with 2 ends being a total of 6 rca ends, wtf is this setup for.
The blue set of rcas has the remote cable with it too.
Now looking at the wires in the dash.
dash and harness

alpine grey box

harness

bottom

Before i unhooked the deck the two green connectors were not hooked up.
The black plug with the needle was pluged into the back of my deck and the rca's white n blue were pluged into the back of the deck to the neg/positive spots.
The wire harnesses that plugs into the deck is the black plug.
Its wired into a whole bunch of wires (im guessing the factory wires)
There is this grey box that says ALPINE on it, seems to be wired in to the harnesses.
Now as for the crossover box in the passenger side door panel i inspected it 2 months ago and al lwires r intact except for one of them, it broke off by thefemale connector so i took out the connector found the screw, jus need to get another female connector and recrimp the end and plug it back in.
but im not sure where these or how these wire up.
also in looking at the front speakers, they look like their wired factory from the door, i dont see black cables, but yet black cables r running from the front but im not sure where...... either way they end up in the trunk not hooked up to anything.. im assuming their front speakerr cables but it doesnt shoow them hooked in the door, maybe they r further up the door?
keep in mind im a sound system wiring noob but i know how things work and hookup to amps etc, atleast a 2 channel amp ;p.
im not totaly retarded, i jus need some pro help!
Jus wanna get this **** wired so i can get sound from all speakers/tweaters.
If i want subs later down the road i can just buy an amp and some subs and hook it up.
What im wondering is do crossovers work without amps and sub?
crossovers make the sound clearer and takes out distortion/balances the frequencies am i right?

OK, lots of pix, the one thing I can not see is what color the wires are that the Alpine harness is connected to, but it looks like the stock radio harness wiring, [no harness adapter was use, too bad] what I also see is the wrong type of crimp connectors used, "china caps", [semi clear white caps] and yellow in-line butt connectors, [too big], red butt connectors should be used, maybe blue butt connectors for the power, [yellow] and ground, [black], better yet would be solder and shrink tubing.
It also looks like the Alpines rear speaker outputs are connected to the stock radio harness, [hard to tell without a better pix of the actual connections] but if they are then you should get sound just by connecting the stock speaker leads to the rear speakers.
If there are black speaker leads also connected to the stock radio harness, [like the black leads in the rear] then the installer used a common shortcut, [mickey mouse] he ran the speaker leads from the amp up to behind the HU and connected them to the radio harness front speaker leads, [so he wouldn't have to run them into the door] quick and easy but not the right way to do it.
If that's the case, then the Alpine HUs front speaker outputs, gray set and white set are not connected to anything, they would need to be connected to the stock radio harness front speaker leads, the leads the black speaker leads are connected to now.
The little gray box W\with Alpine on it is a line choke and fuse holder, it should be on the yellow Alpine harness lead.
The two green plugs are for the stock key-less entry system, [plugged into stok radio] and the stock alarm system, [alarm brain was mounted in a slot on the top of the stock radio[ neither plug is needed.
The black cable with the "needle end on it" is the antenna lead, the end is called a standard Motorola ant. plug, most cars use them and all aftermarket HUs use them, [female end].
The RCA leads, [interconnect] and the RCA plugs, [panel mounts on back of HU] and RCA sub leads, [pigtail] are all preamp outputs, front left and right outputs, rear left and right outputs and sub outputs, they would all go to off-board amps, they do not have a pos.(+) and neg.(-), they are left and right, the center pin is the "signal" and the outside barrel is the "signal return" the red RCA is right channel and the white RCA is the left channel.
The Alpine CDA-9833 is a pretty good HU with a lot of features including built in 2way/3way x-over, time correction, EQ and bass focus to name a few, it also has a 4 primery color and 512 shades of colors to pick from, you can match your dash colors exactly
Does your car have power door locks?
If so, do they work?
Do you have an aftermarket alarm?
Does your dome light work?
If you have questions, feel free to IM me, I answer my IMs first. 94

Yup the the car has power door locks, but only the driver side locks and unlocks when i use my viper alarm.
the passenger dont do anything. But if i press them in and out to lock and unlock it works perfectly. not stiff, not hard, not siezed.
I do not have the connector for the motor on the driverside door silver lock latch pluged in cause it was only hooked up to the driveside lock which was usless and a security hazard. (might have to rewire this to the passenger door lock ? but theres no auctuators.. i dont get it how do they work ??? ;p
and yes when my hu is on the domelight works on automatic. off and on positions. with the head unit off it only works in the on/off positions. auto position still stays off.
stock radio is not in the car.
my aftermaket alarm is a viper alarm.
It works sometimes and sometimes dont. i think either the remote chip is worn or something is wrong with the brain. Sometimes when alarmed. it wont turn off or unarm. then it randomly will. sometime it wont arm. jus a **** off. changed batteryes like ten sets, same thing. tore apart the remote and the chip is abit black on the button(unlock/lock) other 2 buttons on the remote seem to not do anything so maybe reprogramming the buttons might fix it if it is the controller chip.
and yeah the deck is pretty sick, ud have to teach me more about it later once its working!.
So i think im gonna start from scratch and rewire everything i can pull the dash cause i jus had it out and its easy atm. can remove the console and door panels and knee bolsters, i can get things rdy and we could start a complete rewire, who knows maybe we can even fix the alarm and door locks, that is if ur willing to help me :p

I will help, use the IM.
You will not need to pull the dash to redo the wiring, unless you want to rewire and install alarm "full stealth"
Fallow instructions here... http://www.installdr.com/InstallDocs...PDF/466013.pdf on what to remove to do a proper rewire and install of HU. 94

just a standard install with door locks working for both sides, i have fuel cutoffs x2 anyway so nn for full stealth.
also since theres n oetxtra harness or no plugs
do i just cut all the wires?
also how or where do i know or find the stock wires in the rear//front.
see this is where im lost lol.
also r the wires from factory harness same color as the new cdplayer ?? i jus match em up?
i dont wanna **** **** up lol

BTW, where in B.C. are you?
those black wires are wires that are connecting to a four channel amp that used to be in there. they are wired into the factory speaker leads that are behind the head unit on the other side of the wiring harness where it was connected originally. if you want to get sound, you can either undo all of the connections made in the back of the head unit and connect them with there respective wires or you can buy a four channel amp and hook it up to the black wires and the rcas in your trunk, that should fix that problem, i did almost the exact same thing in my car.
