Tokico Illumina 5 Way Question
I've checked their site but can't find any info on it and thought perhaps someone around here might know.
Currently my car is lowered with some unknown springs (previous owner) and I'm thinking of switching over to Ground Control sleeves but was curious of what the maximum spring rate that the Tokicos could handle.
I know that Koni Yellows are good for about 550-575 but I know different shocks do different things.
I plan to send Tokico an email about this as well.

theres no set number for any shock, even koni's on what kind of spring rate it can handle.
run whatever spring rates you need for your application. adjust the shocks as needed.
any spring rate over 500lbs/in is just stupid for the street in my view, regardless of shock.

oki doki, i saw some H22 swap springs for civics 92-95 and yea, i was gunna get them and put them on the tokico's but i think they are like 500 or so, ty for the reply.
-oh btw.. how is the ride of the Tokico illuminas?... with whatever coilover.

konis are rebound only adjustable. its VERY easy to "over dampen". not really a good thing to be honest.
illuminas work well by adjusting both compression and rebound simultaneously. ive used it for a variety of setups and they work great.

personal preference, that makes sense
as far as spring rates and the whites. it's also personal preference. since i haven't used these it's hard to venture a guess. i have seen cars running 450s with them. above that? it's all about what you want the rebound to feel like.

Im a fan of the illuminas... The set on my car are 12 years old and have about 120k on them. Aside from normal wear, they are not blown and still in great shape considering what I've put them through over the years. They've had a few spring rates on them over the years, between 400 and 600 lb/in and a pair of 900 lb/in drag springs on occasion. I feel like they have trouble damping anything above a 500 lb spring though (but that might just be my opinion)
Im currently running 550lb/in springs on my front illuminas. I have the shocks set at 5 and they do dampen the spring decently (although on some bumps i notice a bit of under dampening)
yea, i see them cheap and pretty affordable on ebay.. the illuminas that is. I'm going to pick some up this friday... what about coilover springs? what do any H-er's reccomend.. and what Lbs for front and back 400? 500?.. *side info* other than the shocks my set up is basically stock.

i have Toyo Proxy4's on 16's, the ride height i want is i guess bout 2 finger width maybe 1 between fender and tire... my ride right now is super rough on bumps .. so i want something softer but i dont wanna bottom out... and ill prolly stick with those tires atm.. i plan on getting rims and new tires, but i want to do some body work first.
just run softer springs in the rear if you want a smoother ride.
its my experience that the rear spring rates dictate the ride, almost regardless of the front springs. just my experience. probably has something to do with the moment arm to the center of gravity, which is further from the rear wheels.
any spring kit, like prokits or whatever, will have soft springs in the rear anyway.

^ x2 and ditch those tires asap. No one has brought up ride height... If you want it to ride decent, you can forget about slamming it. I don't care what anyone says about it. "Rides smooth for a slammed car" directly translates to "rides like ****, but i've seen worse"
this is also true. slammed = handles like **** and rides just the same
so you think 2 finger is slammed? i wasnt going to go past 2 finger gap.. i kinda like it.. and what kind of tires do you guys prefer, so i can form my own opinion from some info.
quick side note.. i found the website with the "h22 swap springs" the rates are 375 in front and 175 in back

tire wise. if you want all out performance without having to heat up an R compound some of the newer 140-200 treadwear tires like the kumho xs, dunlop star spec, yoke ad08 and bridgestone 11 are going to be fast. they also do better with a little more spring. 500/450 would work well with any of the above tires. slightly lighter is always better than too stiff but if you use anything much softer you will probably experience more body roll than you would like with a tire that sticky.
