WHICH IS BETTER EBAY TURBOS OR NAME BRAND TURBOS LIKE GARRET
WHICH ONE DO YOU THINK IS BETTER AND WHY DO YOU THINK IT IS BETTER BECAUSE IM IN A DILEMA IN CHOOSING ONE OR THE OTHER SOME SAY GO WITH THE EBAY TURBO SOME SAY GO WITH THE NAME BRAND TURBO I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO CHOOSE BECAUSE I WANT TO BUILD A 400 PLUS WHP D16Z6 BY NEXT SUMMER SO I WAS WONDERING WHATS BETTER!
is this a real question? I'd like to see an ebay turbo capable of making more than 400whp last more than a couple of months, and I'm being generous.
Just know that it costs a lot of money to do things right and make that kind of power...so if you're already trying to find a way to cut costs, stop right now.

Thats like asking if china-gates are better than Tial. There's no comparison. Name brand in most cases is gonna be better quallity and longer lasting than cheaply made no name parts. If your planning to make that kind of power, you shouldnt cheap out on anything. And i mean ANYTHING!
also, stop typing in all caps, it gets really annoying.

name brand turbochargers have that pricetag for a reason. they are built to perform. i have seen some good results come out of ebay turbochargers but like previously stated, they go out fast. if you are daily driving on stock internals and 7lbs with a ebay kit, it will last you for a while but don't expect for it to hold long under WOT. As the saying goes, "you get what you pay for". please do not cut corners when building a turbo 4-cyl. the results will show.
ok i get you that means it would be better to go with that brand name turbo then going with some crappy ebay turbo and i was wondering if this is a good turbo for a 400whp plus build

something in this price range would be good for me 420 dollars price range would be good and would this be a good turbo for me my 400whp plus d16z6

do some searching in the forced induction forum and look for builds making that whp and see what kind of set ups seem to work. there are too many variables when it comes to trying to guess what a build will make power-wise. remember..."measure twice, cut once"
if you really want this 400 whp D, do your homework.

seriously if you are this concerned about money this early in the game, then you need to quit now. Its an expensive hobby. And its really gonna hurt your wallet trying to get a D to 400whp. Since money seems to be such a deciding factor and this is your first build, why not lower your goals? 250-300 is much easier to get to and it makes for a rowdy DD. Its not gonna break any records, but its still fun to drive. Do you research and LEARN what it takes to make power. Then you can build confidently, knowing that those parts will get you where you need to be.
the best thing about thos turbos on ebay is make whatever (HP) you can out of it and just keep replacing them when blown, unless you want a specif one and just re-build re-build over .
big selection on turbos here
www.Go-Autoworks.com nice ones for less them 800 but alots for more.
www.RYwire.com just good site.

I have to agree with srmofo, getting 400+ WHP will not be cheap, well over $1000 when done and you can easily spend $5000 +, assuming you are going to do it right.
I would also suggest you scale back some.
As for where to get a turbo, it really makes no diff. what you do want to keep in mind is that you stick with a brand name and you buy from an authorized dealer so you get full manufacturers warranty and it is always better, [for warranty and customer service] to buy from a local authorized retail dealer, either way, never buy from an unauthorized dealer, you never know what you will get.
One more thing, Borg Warner is not junk, they have been around a very long time, find a local Borg Warner dealer and see what price they have for the turbo, my guess is they will match the price if the EBay vendor is an authorized dealer, if you find a local dealer, don't forget to figure in the cost of shipping and insurance when matching pricing. 94

Care to elaborate on that post or you just trying to be a dick??
Ive been dealing with boosted D series for a long time. Ive shopped around for turbos on numerous ocassions, and if you want a good quallity name brand turbo that is gonna reach that power and last, then your gonna spend some good money.
Also, why would somebody want to waste there money on a cheap knock-off turbo and keep rebuilding it every time it blows a seal. Finding parts for a no name turbo is very difficult, let alone pointless because it will just f*ck up again later.

Its by far the best. So far Gurnee seems to have the faster hondas in the illinois and southern wisconsin regions. Not braggin at all, but i havent seen much of anything from other areas.
You should really come check it out sometime, its worth the drive. Seasons almost done, so probably not until the spring.

any number of garrett/holset/borg-warner turbos will make 400whp on a single cam. The standard garrett 57 trim will do it for 500 bucks.
