Default A trick to help with timing belts or setting valves

When finding Top Dead Center on a particular cylinder when setting valves etc. I started putting a ping pong ball or golf ball over the spark plug hole. As you turn the crank with your wrench the ball will pop up a bit as it reaches the top of compression stroke. Then you can fine tune by using the marks on the camshaft or crankshaft.

An educated eyeball will do the same thing without a side trip to the sporting goods store.

0 (zero) pointer at the crank and cam base curve on both valves will get you TDC compression.

Then again, reading the manual before hand can save a lot of time too.........
