Default options getting 3rd not to grind

I just got a b18c type r lsd tranny 98 an newer. It shifts ok under normal driving. above 8 grand it grinds into 3rd but will go. Dont sound to good. I have put in GM synchromesh.
Question is what are all my options on getting this fixed. it has 10 days left on warrenty from jdmonline but they will just send another used tranny. could be worse. I would just like this one fixed before I damage it more. I live 3-5 hrs away from denver, colorado springs, omaha. oh yea i looked at the overhaul manual an am complety fking intimidated. need someones help an idea what all costs are. thank you

3/4 sleeve set.

Don't know any good transmission shops in your area.

If you send it to me, it would be roughly $560. Parts, labor, shipped back to you. Thats replacing the ISB/seal, axle seals, and a few other wear items as well.

Tryin to follow you in the overhaul manual. Are u referencing the mainshaft or countershaft. also is their anything that slows tranny down between shifts. 8500 rpm seems like a lot of turning to try an get gears to engage.I am going to drive mild an keep shifts below 6 grand. Just for the ***** of it i tryed double clutching. Yea it makes no sense to me but tranny shifts better when i do in all gears. also i noticed my clutch master cylinder is leakng bad in car. I have one ordered. It will take me a while to get the time to have tranny fixed right. dont it help you to drive the car to see how all tranny acts. I am going to be putting this one down the quarter mile. So I really want to give as much info then problem be solved. Thanks again

On the mainshaft.

Don't need to drive it, just need to see it.

Replace the CMC first, that could be your issue.

As far as the trans slowing down, low fluid, bad bearings, or too tight of mainshaft or diff clearance, which likely isn't it if the trans hasn't been worked on before.

Ya changed it didnt help at all. Maybe at least oil wont be dripping on carpet any more I guess it wasent a complete waste. I mean if I sold the car to a gramma hell she would think the tranny shifted great. for some reason i just want it to go into gear at 8400 without gorrilla armin it an grinding the **** up. Before december i am shooting for getting it gone threw. their mite even be some other stuff u find that is on ragged edge.

Take it easy in the meantime or it will be even more expensive to fix.

nog,

Which hubs are you breaking and under what conditions (drag obviously, but during clutch engagement after the shift, during accel, etc)?

acura had a tsb at one point on how to eliminate the 3rd gear grind without any kind of mechanic or fluid. i did it to both my b16 trannys and it helped mine,no more hi rpm grind. did my boys also. it was something like revving to 4500 rpm and put shifter into 3rd gear notch till you feel slight pressure w/ the clutch pedal out. had something to do with cleaning deposits off the synchro or something. anyway if you can find the tsb its at least worth a try since its free. good luck

No deposits to worry about if you change to a good fluid.

Thanks for the tip about the tsb i actually had heard about it an tryed it several monthes ago. Recently my clutch disc broke two spring retainers so i replaced it an the pressure, throwout bearing an pilot bearing. I then installed my redline mtl that i was waiting to put in after i sent to get tranny fixed. I had gm synchromesh in originally. my tranny operates as good as new. I am still breaking in clutch so i havent went above 8,000 rpm to shift. but it now shifts like a hot knife threw butter. wow.

All that really does is bed in the synchro onto the gear cone...like bedding in brake pads.

560 for Honda 3-4 synchro set, bearings, seals, cleaning, and shipping is a great deal!
