Default Engine Coolant Sensor Replacement

Went to a Honda dealer and he told me this rogue engine code referred to my engine coolant sensor. In addition, not only did he point out the sensor is probably bad, he also told me i should probably replace the computer entirely?!?!? I think thats ridiculous.

So two questions:

1) What exactly does that sensor do (i.e. can i live with it being busted) and/or how do i replace it?
2) Do i really have to replace the computer??

1. I would go ahead and replace it, just get the part maybe from ebay or a local junkyard cheap.

2. You DON'T have to replace ECU

There are a a large portion of people who post in the incorrect forum.

Not every Accord from 1990-2001 is the same nor uses the same motor. I know where my engine coolant sensor is on my 97 but it could be different on a 97 w/ a v6.

In most cases, you can easily follow the lower radiator hose to the rear of your engine where the thermostat housing is located. On mine, the plastic plug that goes into the housing is green and that is the sensor.

Yup, its usually on the Thermostat housing; just use the correct socket to remove the sensor out.

Hi Robdog09,
Last year, my Accord was having same problem. I went to the Honda service centre, he repaired sensor successfully without replacing the computer. I think you should go to any other Honda dealer.

Ok, ill definitely try and look. Someone told me to find the bottom hose to the outlet and its there, but i dont see it. Is it a diff color? Is it on the radiator itself or on another piece separate for the radiator?

its separate from the radiator.like others said it should be near/on the thermostat

and if you dont replace it the car will stay in open loop making you run rich and have poor performance all around
