what engine to put in??
I have a 98 civic ex with a d16y8. my transmission is going out and am looking to put in a whole new engine. most people are telling me to go b series but i was thinking putting a j30A1 v6. i was wondering if it would fit.
J has been done successfully, but it's not possible to keep an OEM hood at all. From what I've seen, it would totally upset the balance of the car too... they sit very high in a Civic.

I honestly would say go h2b, make awesome power numbers. And if you decide that you want to go boost in the future you can still do that, just find a good tuner.
well beside being partial to the motor we currently run in our race car
we have seen 200+hp mild builds utilizing our Bisimoto Spec camshafts, valvetrain upgrades, headers, headwork and of course a really good tune. Plus the f-series motor is very cheap to pick up which is never a bad thing

There are new mounts out for the J swaps into EGs and I think EKs (don't hold me to that) that mount the engine back a little better and down more so the hood clears. I've seen pictures.
The F series engine is better than the H because they use standard iron sleeves instead of FRM (fiber reinforced metal), which eats piston rings and causes the engine to burn more oil. If someone sleeved an H though, it wouldn't be an issue.
OP, until you say what you're using the car for, people cannot and should not suggest an engine. Engines are like breasts. My favorite, "B"s. They're a nice size, and practical. I find "D"s pointless, they're just a pain in the back. While nice in a way, "C"s are a little large, but they can work. Last, people will probably almost all say "H"s are too big, but somehow doing a hybrid with a "B" kinda makes them fit better. And a way to just shock people, "K"s.

i race the car in scca autoX and drive it daily. i do some drag racing with it but the car is more set up towards autoX. since i would be put in a class with evos to get the power i want i am just thinking put a new engine since mine is slowly dieing. i am looking for around 200whp and i need to keep it kind of light to keep the balance
