Hey there. Yes I am new to Honda-Tech, and have read up on a few other threads.

Having a Vtec Issue in my '94 Civic CX Hatchback (Motor swaped to EX D16z6)

I've had the car only a few weeks, guy I got it from didnt clean it, and take very good care of it. The guy he got it from Swapped in the motor and left in the P06 ECU (Non-Vtec) But had the wires ran.

Soo... I got a Good working p28 ECU from my buddy, re-wired up the Vtec Correctly. Changed out Solenoid's, and everything to do with that, brand new wires, Pinned to the ECU in correct slots, New O2, full tune-up, fuel filter, and I still get the CEL Code 21 V-TEC control solenoid only when the car gets to about 6,000RPM..

At this point, I am stumped, Oil level is full. I have done nearly everything possible. (

Check few things,

1. Faulty VTEC pressure switch or not connected
2. Re-check your VTEC solenoid
3. Grounding
4. Pin's connected to the ecu are right.

Btw, isn't 6000rpm is redline? your sohc vtec should kick in at 3000rpm with no wat so ever gain of feel in power.

 

I have changed out the entire Vtec Solenoid, along with Pressure Switch, re-grounded it in 2 other different locations. I know it has a great ground. Pins are connected in right slots, nice and snug, not lose in any way.

7000rpm is my redline, or 7200.

It was working at one point when I first got it all together, now the CEL comes on Only when I stomp on it at about 6000rpm, if I drive it like a granny its just fine.

I also heard that if the Speedo isn't working correctly that it will trip the CEL Code 21.
My speedo has a short in it somewhere but I cant seem to find out where. But no VSS CEL comes on. Changed out the Speedo Sensor on tranny, cleaned the plug wires, ect.

Speedo works correctly but going down the road it will cut out and drop to 0mph, then jump up to whatever speed i'm going, needle does not shake back and forth.

Does the solenoid have 14-30 Ohms resistance to engine ground?

Bad ECU?

Is the valve filter clogged?

 

I get like no connection at all. But all wires are ran correctly and secured, not lose in any way.

ECU is good. Tryed another P28 and same thing. Could it have something to do with my Speedo not working correctly?

 

Not sure what you are referring to here? The Ohm measurement?

Have you checked the solenoid filter for clogging?

Unlikely if you don't have a VSS code. Do you pull any CEL codes?

 

Yes becuase I have swapped out the Entine Vtec it self, read up above

I have all good working parts, but no go

 

Is the solenoid new? How do you know it's good?

Might the filter have become clogged post installation during running the engine?

Otherwise, you might want to measure the engine oil pressure.

 

Not new, but was working on the other motor it was on, came off great running motor about a month ago, car got totalled.

Do I even need to run that screen on the Vtec itself?

And how to I go about checking oil pressure?

 

For peace of mind, it's pretty easy to make an Ohm measurement.
