Icon2 90 Civic B16A2 Vtech problem

i have a 90 ef and i'm using my stock engine harness but distributor plugs have been converted to OBD1 and the inside theres OBD0 to OBD1 jumper harness with a P72 OBD1 ECU. Vtech kicks in at 4500 rpm but it don't seem to gain much power out of vtech. any one else have this problem? how do i fix it?!

well you have a gsr ecu running a b16 ecu, ever think that could be your problem? the gsr ecu is also going to be looking for secondary butterflies which will not be present on a b16 intake manifold. its vtec btw, vtech is a phone.

what kind of cams? You really need to get a tune especially if you get bigger cams, as you might be running lean which is bad for making power and for the motor in general.

OP are you throwing any check engine codes? Do you know if VTEC is actually working?

the stock vtec initiation is not to low. honda knows what they're doing better than you do. the only reason why you'd raise that vtec crossover point is if you changed cams and they made more hp/tq at a different rpm band.

^^ read above lol.

4500 is the stock crossover for a b16..5800 is more like a GSR.

His ECU is probably chipped to remove the IAB or secondary intake.

Stock ECU are tuned at the factory for a specific engine, so I don't know why people think that they can just slap it on a differently spec'd motor and expect it to work flawlessly.

Back to your issue, you should try to use a correct ECU for your B16 or have your P72 chipped and tuned properly for your motor.

Actually, Vtec crossover point for GSR is also around 4500 rpm. What people hear at 5500rpm is the sound of secondary intake and think that's Vtec. Some even went on to pronounce to the world that GSR has two-stage Vtak, go figure.

Yeah for some reason I always thought it was later in the power band for some reason but on me since my p28 is chipped with a GSR map and vtec engages right around 4800 lol.
