Is it possible to repair a exhaust mani?
Sorry if this is not posted in the right forum, its the only one I thought it could be answered in. I have a 2 piece Megan header (stainless) and I bought it used with a small dent in the lower section (from a speed bump
). And I have a fair amount of training/experaince welding and doing body work. So I was wondering if you guys think it would be ok to first heat up the dent, weld a stud to it and pull it out with a slide hammer. The only thing I'm concerned with is how I should finish the metal? Should I use some kind of coating to prevent rust or do you think the stainless should be fine uncoated?

Stainless will be fine uncoated. I have thought myself of buying tubing of the same size, cutting out the dent, and welding in a repair, as if just like a rusted quarter panel. That's a neat idea, and I say go for it.
yeah, cut out the dent and hammer back into the original shape and weld it back in. i think if you use stainless welding wire you won't need to coat it or worry about rust.

How bad is the dent? and how low is the car? chances are that it might get dented again if your cars lowered....it may not be worth the time.
But if your just looking to see if you can do it, i say go for it. could be a fun day in the garage.
