Default Most rock solid engine

I am going to sell my b16 civic and I was thinking what I want for my next project/car. In your opinion what is the most rock solid engine? I was thinking it would be fun to buy a cheap eg or crx and swap in a purpose built engine just for the purpose to bag the crap out of it. what do you think could take the most punishment time and time agian? I just want a car that everywhere I drive I can be redling it and having a blast. Im thinking about buying a crx or eg and swap in a JDM ZC.... I hear they are bullet proof.... any other ideas?

I know from experience that d16z6's are pretty solid.

But most engines can take a beating if they're maintained properly.

D15B7/D15B8s blow headgaskets
D16Y7/D16Y8s spin rod bearings
DOHC ZCs spin rod bearings

B18A1/B18B1s are pretty tough
D16Z6s are tough
D15B Vtecs (the OBD1 version) are tough

i have jdm zc in my car love it. It is very solid and if maintained properly will last for a very long time. Although if you plan on beating the **** out of the car all the time your bound to have problems with piston rings, gaskets, rod bearings, unless u get stronger internals. Oh yah r u planing on getting the single ZC or the dual ZC?

Im thinking the dual zc... a little more rev happy. man I can't wait till my car sells. I think this is going to be fun.

Maybe I should go with d16y8, they are cheap as hell aren't they?

B18b would be the best I think.... lots of tourqe, I could just blast around spinning my tires off the line.... mini burn outs.... Yup B18b would be primetime.....

Get some semi bald tires with a sweet clutch that grabs like hells and keep the tires chripin in every gear.... F ya.... gonna be sweet.

D16A6 with updated head gasket. D16Z6 transmission with 4.9FD and MFactory LSD= fun, solid, and reliable

Agreed!! The older A6 found in crx and civic Si were among the best, definitely better than the newer d series engines!

The F22A1 is a very potent engine. They are also very inexpensive and plentiful in many junkyards for under $400.

F ya.... Im stoked... im gonna get a cherry bomb exhaust too and try to get it as raspy sounding as possible. My whip is gonna be so sick. A EF hatch would be a good platform I think.

D16A6 it is then... I think its the best bang for buck.... If it blows, there are lots around.

get a 240sx. the ka24de's are pretty much indestructible. upgrade headgasket and arp headstuds and you'd be set for boost.

Anything can blow a gasket, spin a bearing, something.

Get an Iron Duke or a Chyrsler I6 engine. Both of those are as bulletproof as you'll get.
