depends on resulting compression

Mmmm... not even.

Milling heads... I've often thought about doing this, and I did it once, but in hind sight, it's not a good idea. You're taking away material from the head, allowing to to warp easier. Also, if you do it, there's no going back. Just use a thinner gasket. Don't forget that your cam timing will be retarded a few degrees, depending on how much you take out of there.

As for HP gains... well, an engine is an air pump and is only efficient as its biggest restriction. Bump up compression on a stock motor, and you won't see diddly. Do the same to an engine with IHE, and it still probably won't do much. It all works as a system, and if you're going to bump compression, you might as well port (don't polish), get some SS valves, cam grind, ti keepers and retainers, port match everything, extrude hone the intake manifold, bla bla bla... But in the end, everything you do all comes down to one simple equation... $/HP. And lemmie tell ya from experience... NOTHING can beat the $/HP ratio of a turbo. Period.

yes, it probably will raise your compression a point or two (of course, not from, say 11.2 to 12.2, but rather, 11.2 to 11.3, that is what a "point" is). But that also makes your valves that much closer to your pistons, and like F=WT said, will retard your timing slightly.

I would try to avoid milling until you need to.

And then factor in how undrivable it is in anything other than a drag race... heh... ain't nothing like having a 50 HP on/ off switch for a gas pedeal when you're trying to modulate the throttle around a decreasing radius turn.

yes, in time, youll pay for a turbo if you use it that often. n2o is good for cheap-o's like me.

So what? That's like saying, "Don't go with a turbo! You have to use a blow off valve!" Use that nawwws enough, and it'll pop the motor just ask quick.

I bet I'm a cheaper cheap-o than you! I spend $557 for my terbough setup! Bottle is fine 'n dandy, but like I said- it's undrivable, and what happens when the bottle runs out? Uh oh! Good thing my boost never needs to be refilled.

Better is a relative term. Nitrous is easy to set up and great for straight line. Turbo is more suited for those partial throttle power needs becasue you can modulate it. Some like boost, some like NA, some like super chargers, and some like Nitrous. Chose your weapon. For me, boost is the most logical choice given what I use the car for.
