Yeah I been thinking of doing this too.......
I have a DOHC ZC and I'll be sending some cams to a shop to get regrinded and I'd like to mill the head a bit and get a diff headgasket bump that compression a bit and see what happens...hmmmmmm
Any imput would be great!!! Bizzzump!!

i wouldn't really recommend doing it because that is metal you can't put BACK! just take your factory head gasket and take the top OR the bottom layer off of it. And if you do decide to mill the head make sure a reputable shop does this because if they "measure" wrong and they take too much off then you are screwed because that metal can't be put back like i said so with that in mind think about it. Just my .02 any one can disagree with me just my opinion

in my searches i have not found any headgaskets for the d16y8 that are thinner than the stock one. if i remember correctly the headgasket is three pieces. as mentioned before just remove on of the layers, either top OR bottom. not sure how much higher your compression is gonna get, but it would certainly raise the compression.
if you are honestly considering building a high compression Dseries then you need to read this post:

there is some really good information in there. good luck.

If you want to shave your head you are going to want to take a casting (I think thats what its called it might be casting?) of your combustion camber. You can find out how to do it by searching it on the net. What it is, is a casting of your combution chamber when your piston is at TDC. Once you have the casting you can use a caliper to determine how much you can remove from the head to manipulate the combustion chamber. This is also the time to figure out how much you may want to take of the deck. While your doing this also rotate the motor over and see what kind of clearance your valves have, especialy with an aftermarket cam. When taking these measurments do it with a used (comppressed) head gasket. Wonce the compression is raised you should have a large increase in power because of the aftermarket cam. Hope this helps.

man not to bust your thread up or leave it with a bad taste in your mouth, but man this seems like a lot of work to get a few ponys, i mean really waht's .2-.3 gonna get you at the track, and if you shave your head or deck, youll never get that back, i would just put a thinner head gasket if you want it that bad, but this is all your decision, no matter what you do keep us up to date

Re: (SikCivic)
I do believe that D series head gaskets have layers to them so just pull the bottom layer off of your head gasket BOOM bumped up compression.

Re: (99blackcivicSi)
You can shave your head up to the factory serivce limit. I don't recomend over .030". Spoon's 1-layer is discontinured, their 2-layer is not. Mugen's is also 2-layer. Both gaskets will give you about a .3 (.28) bump in compression. I personally am not a fan of either but doing both will give you a decent bump. I woudl just do it right and change out your pistons, flat valves give you a couple tenths as well. If you mill you head, don't forget cam timing. You will need to readjust.

Re: (Mr Milano)
Buy a spare head, clean it up, get it milled, and stick a decent cam in it. If you are happy with it and want to stick with it, sell your original head. Don't screw around with taking layers out of headgaskets. Also, a good shop should be able to help you with determine how much to mill and what your resulting compression will be.
