Default I have a 92 LS

and was thinking about putting a different head on it, like a gsr or something... I talked to a guy that said it would give me 40-50 more hp... is this true?

What heads would you recommend.

The engine is a b18a1 w/ 175,000 miles.

Also how much would this cost?

175,xxx miles is alot for the block, unless it has been rebuilt. Not sure about the 40-50 hp gain, but i would recommended the gsr, head because of it'll raise more of a compression than the b16 or itr. Although if you buy a itr head which in my opinion will give you the most power for a stock head, because of its factory port and polish, but for the price you could pay for a port job and a valve train for the b16 or gsr heads.

175k on the block doesnt concern me as much as it would on an american 4 cylinder, a compression test would reveal more about how healthy it is.

i wish it was as easy as just giving you a list of things, but given your lack of knowledge in this area, i suggest you start searching about LS/VTEC swaps in the forums first. Gather some info. I can tell you at a minimum its gona require some wiring changes and ECU changes.
