Default 96 GSR Top End Motor Ticking

I thought I had something loose on the exhaust system, but it turns out it is coming from the top end of the motor. It only occurs from 3300 to 3600 RPM.

Motor is all original and has 133k. Any ideas what it could be or what I could test?

Same problem here. It happens around 3100-3300for me. It sounds like a heat shield is loose. But got under there while someone reved it. Pushed pulled on the shields but nothing. Then listened and it sounds like the head. So how do I fix this if its valve lash. Is it dangerous? Will my motor blow?

also worn lost motion assemblies will do this, but more than likely loose valve lash

^^ right.. i must have adjusated my valve lash like 10 times before i finally changed out the lost motions... it would be cherry for a few days then start ticking... but no sense buy those if all you need to do is adjust the clearance.

you may need some valve adjustments...or you may have the same problem i encountered, i had slight "ticks" from idle to mid 4500rpm's. at the time i really didn't have any time to get it fully checked out so, i used a little thicker oil and it solved the prob...well, goodluck on yours. it's really hard to tell if i can't see or hear the problem you're having...
