Heh heh.... just pulled a B18A head and saw a couple of things and need some info.

I pulled it from the block... not a virgin tho... it had been taken apart once before from the evidence that I had seen. (No time recently tho...)

What I noticed was 2 things...

1) Small amount of rust on ONE of the cam lobes

Should I oil it or get it washed or sanded at a shop ?

2) WTF is this ? It's some type of alignment casting.... don't remember what for, but this small part is broken... is that bad ? Any downsides to it...? Don't seem like much... but that's normally all it takes for a dead motor....

Notice in pic #2, the Exhaust cam journal #1 has a small broken piece on it...


Any input would be great. I am looking to put this head on an LS block, looking at boost.

that little tab that sticks out is so you can drop a pin through it and the cam when the motor is at tdc. then the cams are locked in place. i don't think it should effect anything.

 

Word....but just as long as that little tab isn't bouncing around inside the engine somewhere

 

Coo.... even if the pieces are there, I am dis assembling the head for a possible rebuild.
