how high of compression can you make a stock pistoned ls motor
just wondering how much I can bump up the compression ratio of a ls by shaving the head and or running a 1 or 2 ply head gasket.
my motor is a 98 b18b1 pr4 pistons and a 90 b18a1 head.
really intrigued.

Stock 9.6:1
1 layer head gasket 9.95:1
.030 shaved plus 1 layer head gasket 10.7:1

your the man.
do you happen to know if the piston will still sit under the deck so it wont hit the head or anything?

Piston will sit even with the deck at .013 inches shaved instead of .030
with .013 inches shaved it gives you a cr of 10.26:1

Both lol
The CR is the same whether either one is shaved
The piston wont come out of the block unless the block itself is shaved
there is a .013 inch clearance from top of piston to stock block deck
Sorry if i was confusing at all

perfect. this makes me really stoked cause Im a tight *** and dont wanna build a bottom end.
(its more of a piece of mind thing then money related)
I just like to know that If I have a stock ls bottom end and I spin a rod bearing or something goes wrong on it all I have to buy is a stock ls bottom end to replace it.
I do understand how much it costs to build a motor though and thats money Id rather spend on suspension and a lsd...etc the stuff that makes your car fun
Im gonna pull my head this week and deck it, 1 ply h.g. it with arp's and retro fit a itr mani on it with a 65mm t.b. hope all goes well.

honestly you can get new rings and pistons for dirt cheap. like from here: http://cgi.ebay.ca/97-01-1-8-L-Acura...4.c0.m14.l1262
shaving that much from the head and block makes no sense and you will run into issues (ie: cam timing and belt tension issues)
and i think the second guy's math is wrong.......stock LS CR is 9.2:1 so at best with all that hacking of the head and block you "might" get close to 10:1
good luck.

damn those are cheap. i really dont wanna build a motor though. but you know what they say, you cut enough corners you end up going in a circle.
