help, my car just took the ultimate sh*t!
ahhh here we go. so i just changed the positive battery terminal and i readjusted the battery holder. and i was driving and i smelled something. so i pulled over popped my hood and saw that the metal from the battery holder was touching my intake. i was like oh ****. and while i was moving it around it was sparking. i had no electrical tape to wrap the metal temporarily til i got home, so i adjusted it and i thought it was ok to go home. i was driving home and as i was pulling into my street, the car just started losing power and all my cluster lights were going on and dimming out. so i quickly stopped the car put it into neutral and turned the car off. took a while for the car to turn off but eventually died.
popped the hood, unhooked the ground cable to the battery and took the intake arm off. i saw the ground wire from my valve cover was fried so i didnt try to start the car again. so my question is, anything else i should check for? i will check all my fuses tomorow morning and where can i get that ground wire on the valve cover at? can this be an easy fix? sorry for the long explanation, thanks guys

actually yeah it happen to me one time, the positive terminal was touching the intake tube and it was arcing like u wouldnt believe, burnt a hole through the intake on the terminal to the other side of the intake, then it went into the strut tower and burnt a hole in there too.
i just went and grabbed some of those battery terminal plastic covers and popped it onto the positive terminal, ever since then nothing has happen.
oh yeah i had to replace the battery for sure too.

oh wow thanks timmy! you gave me so much relief. hahah. i hope thats the case for me as well. did you get the plastic cover at a regular parts store? and did ur lights go effin crazy too? also, did ur ground on ur valve cover fry just like mine?
i was only fortunate enough that it only arc'd through the intake into the tower, no wires were burnt at all. of course this all happen cause i had the "big 3" upgrade i did in the engine bay. so maybe thats why no wired were burnt.
yeah i just went to like canadian tire and got those plastic covers, put it between the positive terminal of the clamp and the intake, so it wont arc anymore.
this also happen during the day, i smelled something burning and the dash lights were turning on and off and losing power as i drove, then it all died. i always carry a digi multimeter in my car, so i checked the battery and sure enough it was fried.

ohhh boy i hope ur intake wasnt an expensive one. and whats the "big 3"? oh and this might sound stupid, can i use any battery or do i have to get one specifically for my car? cus i always end up getting the battery for my car.

Big 3. upgrading your ground wires from your valve cover to your chassis, your tranny ground to your chassis, and the power wire from your alternator to your positive battery post, i also upgraded the ground wire from the battery post to the chassis.
and i used 4awg wire for everything.
you can use any battery, but the big question is...is it going to fit? CRXs already have a small battery as it is. going any bigger, you'll prolly have to mod your battery tray or relocate your battery to the back of the hatch.
i really wanna get myself an optima red top or yellow top but those suckers are expensive as crap.
but the good thing bout those are they have the side posts so u dont have to worry bout arcing to the intake.
and my intake is not an expensive one at that. just a cheapo painted one.

yeah i always hear ppl talk about those batteries. i think im jus gonna get a regular battery for the ef jus to get the car running. thanks for the info though!
can i use any ground cable frm the valve cover to the chassis or isthere a specific kind? and i jus wrapped my intake arm with a crapload of elect. tape.

-ok damnit, so i checked all my fuses. all good.
-i checked the connections and they are still in good condition. except my ground wire on my valve cover to the chassis. that thing is fried and it actually broke in two pieces. so basically no ground from the valve cover.
-i switched my working battery from my other ef into this one and tried to start it. same results. won't start
ok so the engine cranks and sometimes would start. sometimes the engine would just keep cranking and wont start. is it not starting because of ground wire on the valve cover? i need this car to start. lol.
also you kno when you install a working battery, when you hook the negative cable you get the usual sparks, i dont get that with my old battery. (i did though when i was putting in the working battery from my other car)

a digital multimeter is ur best friend here.
i would also try and get some sort of ground wire from the valve cover to the chassis. even if u have to make one.
also put the key into the "on" position, and check if ur throwing a code on ur ecu.
u also wanna make sure that ur battery post isnt really near the intake, that or there's the plastic covering over top.
i would also check all your grounds too, especially the one to your thermostat housing. not just your valve cover ground.
there's so many variables that could be happening here man, just gotta rule them out one at a time.

ok well i just put a new ground wire from the valve cover to the chassis. i just got a 10 awg and wrapped the wire around the bolt and bolted it down. hooked everything up. still nothing. it would crank and start and die. it would crank and nothing. and sometiems nothing at all.
in the on position, the cel isnt on. only the battery seatbelt and the regular stuff. also both my turn signal lights light up and stay on. when i click the hazard button, all i hear is a weird sound coming from the cluster or under my dash on the driver side. sound like a mechanical thing.
what would i do to the voltmeter? im taking my battery to the auto store to get it checked right now.
*edit: auto store closed. and the sound i coming from under my dash near my fuses. i think its coming from a relay. i dont know if its the main relay. its right above the fuses.

alright guys will do. thanks for the suggestions. how many relays are under the dash, jus two? do i have to open up the main relay to check if its ok?
should be able to listen to it when u turn the key on...when mine was going bad it made nasty noises and id have to hit it around to get it to work or buy a $45 relay lol when u turn the key on it should click once check engine light on then bout 2 seconds later will click again and check engine shoud go off if that checks out relay should be fine
oh and when i make a ground, can i just strip the wire and wrap it around a bolt and bolt it down? or do i need the little ring thing at the end?
hmm tried starting the car up again today, and sometimes it would start and it would stay alive only if you keep on the gas. if you let the rpm drop , it dies. also all my cluster lights work except my fuel gauge doesnt work.
this happened ot me last time but everything in my cluster wasnt working, and it was only a fuse. the fuse looks good though. and i kno i put gas in. anybody have any ideas on that? thanks
