Default please help alternatar or battery

this is my problom on my honda. i was driving it back home and i noticed that my rpm gauge was acting weird but the car was runing fine. i got home turned the car off and then i was about to leave and then the car wouldnt start. i charged the battery with battery cables and started the car up. then when the car started up i took off the battery cables. i let the car run for a good 10 mins. then i tryed to turn it back on and it wouldnt start, but all the lights on the gauge cluster would light up. but the car wouldnt turn over. then i put another battery in the car and it started up. i left it there runing for about 5 mins then i turned it off. then it started right back up. could it be that my battery is no good or my alternater is going out. also i heard that if your alternater is going out. u can check while the car is on by taking the negitive wire off the battery. and if the car dies that means your alternater is no good. is this true? someone please help me out

That is true but it puts alot of stress on the alternator. So if you do it dont do it long, just see if the car stays on or dies. Then turn off the car before you connect the neg. so you dont short something. I use to work at sears auto and saw that **** because someone heard thats how its done.

But sounds to me just like your batt. took a **** on you.

sounds like a bad alternator that is not recharging your battery

when you remove the ground from the battery the car should stay on (unless your idle is too low and the alternator can't supply the required energy). For a proper working car, low idle shouldn't be a problem, and the car should stay on after you remove the negative wire.

The fact that your car can't start suggests that your battery is junked. Get a good battery and fix that alternator or else the good battery you have now will discharge a few times till it goes bad as well.
